Mid-Distance Swimmer Natalie Hamlet of High Point Verbals to American

Mid-distance specialist Natalie Hamlet of High Point Swim Club and Bishop McGuinness High School in Kernersville, North Carolina has announced her commitment to American University in Washington D.C.

Last season, Hamlet made the finals in every one of her events at the 2016 North Carolina High School Athletics Association 1A/2A State Swimming Championships. She finished sixth in the 200 freestyle with 1:56.56 and sixth in the 500 freestyle with 5:15.99. Hamlet also anchored the Bishop McGuinness High School 200 free relay which finished seventh in 1:47.95 and swam fly in the Bishop McGuinness tenth-place 200 medley (2:02.28).

More recently, Hamlet made the B final of the 200 IM (2:32.20 LCM) at the North Carolina Long Course Senior Championships this summer.

Her fastest SCY times are below:

  • 200 free: 1:56.24
  • 500 free: 5:14.70
  • 1000 free: 10:48.25
  • 100 fly: 1:01.29
  • 400 IM: 4:40.71

The American University team, coached by Mark Davin in his 21st season, finished eighth at last year’s Patriot League Championships. Though Hamlet’s times currently aren’t quite fast enough to final, she may have a spot on the American University 800 free relay. Last season’s relay ended up with a DQ in the event, but their splits ranged from 1:53 to 1:55, and Hamlet could be well within reach.
