Michigan State Champion Enrique Hernandez Headed to Xavier University

Birmingham, Michigan’s Enrique Hernandez has signed an NLI to swim with the Xavier Musketeers in 2015-16. Hernandez is a senior at Seaholm High School in Birmingham. He placed fourth in the 100 free (46.54) and sixth in the 200 free (1:41.94) at the 2014 MHSAA Boys D2 Swim & Dive Championships, and anchored Seaholm’s first-place 200 free (20.69) and 400 free (46.27) relays. The latter relay broke the Michigan state record.

Outside of high school, Hernandez swims with Birmingham-Bloomfield Atlantis. His top events are:

50y free: 21.39 50m free: 25.03
100y free: 46.54 100m free: 55.40
200y free: 1:41.94 200m free: 2 00.65
100y back: 53.77 100m back: 1:04.71
200y IM: 2:02.06 200m IM: 2:27.64

Head coach Brent MacDonald has put together a Xavier roster that keeps getting stronger every year; the Musketeers won Big East conference championships last year. Hernandez should fit nicely into the sprint group. His 50, 100, and 200 times would already make the all-time top 20 for Xavier, but that list is changing all the time. Indeed, nearly half the top-20 swims in each of those three events come out of this season alone. Hernandez will arrive just as the Musketeers will graduate three of their top sprinters, Carter Clark, Michael Gordon, and Armando Moss.
