Michael Andrew Gives Kudos To Van Mathias for Breaking His 100 Breast American Record

2026 Pro Swim Series – Indianapolis

Video captured by Anya Pelshaw.

Michael Andrew was on deck, having swam his final race of the meet, when IU Director of Ops Van Mathias swam a 58.01 in the 100 Breast tonight, breaking Andrew’s 5-year-old American record of 58.14. Andrew, an Olympian in this event, gave props to Van Mathias, and also said he is now the one who will be chasing after the American record once again. Andrew, the defending Pan Pacific Champion, didn’t swim finals of the 100 breast at this meet – he was 1:01.67 for 9th in prelims and scratched out of the B Final. He did have promising results in other events, however, finishing 2nd in the 50 fly (23.08), 50 free (21.78), and 50 breast (26.87), all season best swims. He also took 5th in the 50 back (25.18).

according to his insta posts, MA recently got married … or he is mocking the institution of marriage. either way based on his posts and interviews he seems confused about the faith and values he and his family occasionally profess.

MA continually makes a mockery of the faith he professes. Today’s truck wash video crosses lines. MAs parents said they kept him out of college to shield him from sex and drug culture. This video MA made and posted on his socials shows MA is doing just fine delving into immorality onhis own.

I’m just not seeing a path for MA in the 100BR. He seems to be mostly training for the 50s, which is fine but he lacks the endurance for a 100. MA hasn’t swam a 58 since 2022 what makes anybody think he can break 58 anytime soon.

Also the Olympic schedule and therefore the US Trial schedule isn’t going to do him any favors. The 50FL and 100BR are on first day. That means prelims, semis and finals will be practically be back to back. Dude couldn’t swim a 50FL prelim without missing out on the 100BR final at a freaking in season meet. He is going to struggle again if he attempts the same thing at trials.

no one on this forum but MA himself is suggesting he can swim sub 58.

meanwhile MA shared on his social media today the free box of Good Wipes he received, and looks forward to using this summer. Posting about a box of lavender or rosewater flushable wipes suggests that he seems to be struggling to get individual sponsors so is seeking any freebie he can get.

Meanwhile, MA posted the box of Dude Wipes he received. Guess he’ll take all the freebies he can get while he still can.

Does he really think he can go sub 59?

Of course, MA thinks he can go not just sub 59 but sub 58. He is convinced he’s the goat.

When MA made the team in Tokyo he was training for the 2IM putting in some real work, and also qualified in the 100br and 50fr and was fit enough at the time to possibly qualify in the 100fly had he swam it. He might not make the team in the 2IM if Casas and Foster are both on, but I feel like if he at least tried then his other events might be better.

MA’s the defending Pan Pac champ in the 50 free. Don’t think he won the 100 free

MA is swimming well this year, but he needs more specialization. His current approach as a jack of all trades sprinter won’t land him on a World Championship or Olympic team again. Given the current state of team USA swimmers, which is only going to get stronger and faster, his only real shot at making the team is as our #2 breaststroker and primarily in the 50. The 50fly is his only other shot.

Should MA squeak into top 2 of a 50, he could still be left off US LA 2028 team due to roster cap.

Every time I’m reminded that MA is actually older than Van Mathias it scrambles my brains

MA is also just a few months younger than Kyle Chalmers.
