Mexico’s swimmers set two new national records with one swim on the final day of racing at the World Championships.
The team of Marcus Reyes-Gentry, Miguel de Lara, Jorge Iga and Andres Dupont shattered the Mexican record in the men’s 4×100 medley relay, posting a 3:35.81 to lower the standard by over a second.
The record previously stood at 3:36.88, set at the 2024 World Championships in Doha by Diego Camacho, de Lara, Iga and Dupont.
Mexico’s relay team was much faster on the backstroke and freestyle legs this morning, with Reyes Gentry throwing down an opening split of 54.04 which was almost 1.8 faster than Camacho’s split (55.83) last year.
Split Comparison
| New Record – 2025 | Old Record – 2024 | |
| Back | 54.04 (Reyes-Gentry) | 55.83 (Camacho) |
| Breast | 1:01.33 (de Lara) | 1:00.52 (de Lara) |
| Fly | 52.85 (Iga) | 52.46 (Iga) |
| Free | 47.59 (Dupont) | 48.07 (Dupont) |
| Total | 3:35.81 | 3:36.88 |
Reyes-Gentry picked up two national record titles in one, as he lowered his own Mexican record in the 100 back with his performance as the leadoff. His time of 54.04 shaved .32 off of the previous record (54.36), which he just set earlier this week when he raced the individual 100 back.
Reyes-Gentry took it out in 26.51 this morning, which was half a second slower than the opening 50 of his individual 100. He had an absolutely stellar back half on the relay, as he blasted home in 27.53, which was .82 faster than his closing split earlier in the meet.
Mexico placed 15th overall in the relay and did not advance to the final of the event.

Dupont also had the 4th fastest freestyle split of the field. That’s a huge statement for Mexico.
