The Lithuanian swimming federation has released its roster for World Championships, with familiar names Ruta Meilutytė and Simonas Bilis among the athletes set to travel to Kazan.
Meilutytė was Lithuania’s only medal winner at the 2013 edition of the championships in Barcelona where she took home gold in the 100m breaststroke, followed by a silver medal in the 50m breaststroke race. The 18-year-old is currently ranked 2nd in the world in both the 50m and 100m breaststroke events behind Russia’s Yulia Efimova.
Bilis is coming off of a remarkable season as a junior at North Carolina State where he earned “Most Valuable Swimmer of the ACC Meet” honors after setting ACC conference and championship records in the 100y free individual race and 400y free relay, while moving on to claim top eight finishes in the 50y free and 100y free events at the NCAA Championships. In meters, Bilis’ best times was the 49.62 he clocked in the 100m freestyle and 22.31 he produced in the 50m freestyle at the 2015 Canadian Trials earlier this month.
