Meilutytė & Bilis Highlight Lithuanian Worlds Roster

The Lithuanian swimming federation has released its roster for World Championships, with familiar names Ruta Meilutytė and Simonas Bilis among the athletes set to travel to Kazan.

Meilutytė was Lithuania’s only medal winner at the 2013 edition of the championships in Barcelona where she took home gold in the 100m breaststroke, followed by a silver medal in the 50m breaststroke race.  The 18-year-old is currently ranked 2nd in the world in both the 50m and 100m breaststroke events behind Russia’s Yulia Efimova.

Bilis is coming off of a remarkable season as a junior at North Carolina State where he earned “Most Valuable Swimmer of the ACC Meet” honors after setting ACC conference and championship records in the 100y free individual race and 400y free relay, while moving on to claim top eight finishes in the 50y free and 100y free events at the NCAA Championships.  In meters, Bilis’ best times was the 49.62 he clocked in the 100m freestyle and 22.31 he produced in the 50m freestyle at the 2015 Canadian Trials earlier this month.

Lithuanian Worlds Roster:

Rūta Meilutytė
Giedrius Titenis
Danas Rapšys
Simonas Bilis
Mindaugas Sadauskas
Tadas Duškinas
Povilas Strazdas
* Women’s 200m Breaststroke – Viktė Labanauskaitė or Raminta Dvariškytė

Bilis and a bunch of NC State swimmers went to the Canadian WC trials at the beginning of April and Bilis did a 49.62 in the 100 meters free and a 22.31 in the 50 meters free.

Any idea what she is swimming besides 50 and 100 breast? She has been known to swim the 50 and 100 free and 200 IM at major meets.

I think she should give the 200 breast a try.
Think about it.
First 50- 30.50
Second 50- 35.0 (105.5)
Third 50- 38.0 (143.5)
Fourth 50- 39.0 (2:22.50)
She can improve her endurance and possibly drop to a 2:19

That sounds super painful 🙂
