Matt Hutchins Named Big Ten Men’s Swimmer of the Week

Wisconsin’s Matt Hutchins was named swimmer of the week after winning the 1,000 (8:58.45) and 500 (4:22.96) against USC. His teammate Clark Carter earned diver of the week and freshman of the week for winning the 1-meter event.

Matt Hutchins, Wisconsin

Jr. – Christchurch, New Zealand

  • Collected a pair of first-place finishes in the 1,000-yard freestyle (8:58.45) and 500-yard freestyle (4:22.96), and added a second-place touch in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:01.49) in a dual meet at USC
  • School-record time in the 1,000-yard freestyle currently ranks fourth in the nation
  • Time in the 500-yard freestyle is an NCAA provisional qualifying time
  • Earns his fourth career Swimmer of the Week honor

Diver/Freshman of the Week

Clark Carter, Wisconsin 

Fr. – Omaha, Neb. – Creighton Prep

  • Claimed his first collegiate title in the one-meter event with 311.18 points and finished third in the three-meter event with a score of 310.73 in a dual meet at USC
  • Score in the one-meter event is an NCAA Zone Diving qualifying mark
  • Earns his first career Diver and Freshman of the Week honor
