The first downed record of day 3 of the French Elite Championships came at the hands of rising Cal junior Mary-Ambre Moluh in the women’s 50 backstroke, blasting a French record of 27.20, a near quarter of a second time drop from her career best from this meet last season of 27.43, and besting Analia Pigree‘s 2022 record time of 27.27.

That time leapfrogs her up in the world rankings this season in the event, she now sits 6th, just ahead of Russia’s Alina Gaifutdinova with 27.23.

Moluh defeated the now former record holder Pigree in the final, as she was also right on the brink of clipping that time, finishing 2nd in 27.31. The 3rd place finisher, Beryl Gastaldello, also surged to a new best time in the event in 27.62, swimming her first best time in the 50 back since 2018 at the European Championships of 27.86.

Those three swimmers rank 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the event’s history among French Performers.
