LSU Picks Up Verbal Commitment from Swedish Nat’l Junior Teamer Emil Hassling

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Emil Hassling who hails from Helsingborg in the south of Sweden, has verbally committed to Louisiana State University for 2020-21. He will join Mason Nyboer in the Tigers’ class of 2024.

”I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at Louisiana State University!! Thank you to my family, friends, and coaches for helping me get to where I am today. I really look forward to next fall, Geaux Tigers!!!”

Hassling swims year-round with Landskrona Simsällskap under head coach David Söderstjerna. Over the last few years he has focused more on IMs and his preferred event is the 200 IM. He is the only Swedish 17-year-old to have broken the 2:00 mark in the 200 SCM IM. Last winter he won gold in the 100/200 IM and silver in the 400 IM at the 2018 Swedish Junior Short Course Championships. He represented Sweden at 2018 European Junior Championships in Helsinki, competing in the 100 breast, 200 IM, and 400 IM. Hassling raced the same three events at the FINA World Cup in Berlin in October and finished 12th in the 400m IM. He earned gold in the 400m IM and silver in the 200m IM at the SM/Para-SM/JSM meet this past summer and recorded four best times at Swim Open Stockholm in April.

Top LCM times (converted):

  • 200m IM – 2:04.32 (1:47.78)
  • 400m IM – 4:28.51 (3:52.26)
  • 50m breast – 29.31 (25.29)
  • 100m breast – 1:04.71 (56.03)
  • 200m breast – 2:20.10 (2:01.60)

Hassling’s converted times are very close to scoring for the Tigers at conference. It took 54.08 in the 100 breast, 1:58.15 in the 200 breast, 1:46.47 in the 200 IM, and 3:50.06 in the 400 IM to score at 2019 SEC Championships.
