Ledecky After Historic 1500: “That’s a pretty crazy start to the year”

2026 PRO SWIM SERIES – AUSTIN

Video captured by Anya Pelshaw.

Katie Ledecky threw down a 15:23 1500 Freestyle tonight in Austin at the Pro Swim Series. At age 28, that was not only the fastest Ledecky has ever been in January, but it was the 2nd fastest time ever swum in the event (behind, of course, Ledecky’s 15:20 world record). After the race, Ledecky said she had little expectation heading into the race, but didn’t expect that.

I could be wrong, but I believe she once set the world record in Austin in January at a Pro Series meet. Don’t remember if it was the 1500 or 800. I believe it was 1500.

Need y’all to ask what specifically has been different for her the last 2 years that is leading to this level of success. She said she was healthier in 2025 than the year prior, but would like more insight than that if she’s willing to share.

If she comes back around, ask her what it’s like training with Jaouadi.

She’s answered this question before… staying healthy for longer periods of time so she can get some good training blocks in.

9k-10k sessions!? Wow. I never knew that even KL did those.

After those sessions at that pace, 1500 would be a sprint!
