Lauren Hancock Named Associate Women’s Head Coach Of Auburn

Auburn Swimming head coach Brett Hawke announced Wednesday that Lauren Hancock will take up the position of the program’s associate women’s head coach.

Hancock hails from the Conejo Simi Swim Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif. where she’s been the head coach since 2010. There, she trained three U.S Olympic Trial qualifiers, seven U.S National qualifiers, and 12 U.S Junior national qualifiers.

While there, Hancock also oversaw 11 assistants at three different training sites. Her club earned a silver medal designation from USA Swimming in 2015 after being named a bronze medal club in 2014.

Prior to her stint as the head coach, Hancock was the head age group coach from 2008-10, where she trained multiple Junior Olympic qualifiers.

“We were all very impressed with Lauren’s attention to detail and quick connection with the team and staff,” Hawke said. “We’re excited to incorporate her head coaching experience within the women’s team and middle distance group while infusing her infectious spirit throughout the entire program. She has had a profound impact within the swimming community on the West Coast and I’m looking forward to her bringing that influence to Auburn.”

Hancock’s collegiate experience dates back to her days as a swimmer where she was the captain for the Duke Blue Devils during the 2003-2004 season. There, she set school records in the 100 fly and 200 medley relay. In 2004 she graduated from Duke with a degree in sociology.

Her first collegiate experience as a coach came during the 2004-2005 season where she worked as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Duke. Later she received a Masters degree in sports psychology from Tennessee while training for the 2008 Olympic Trials.

This will be her first collegiate coaching job since her season as an assistant coach at Duke.

On the program Hancock said, “I immediately connected with Auburn’s commitment to a tradition of continued success.  I was impressed by the resources, and the quality of spirit in the Auburn student-athletes.  I am thrilled and honored to have been given this opportunity by Brett and his staff.”

Hancock will be working with Auburn’s middle distance group as well as overseeing the entire women’s program.
