Krzysztof Chmielewski Blasts 1:52.89 200 Fly, Breaks 14-Year-Old Polish National Record

2025 World Championships

Poland’s Krzysztof Chmielewski made waves in the 200 fly, shattering a 14-year-old national record in the event en route to qualifying 2nd for the semifinals of the event.

Chmielewski blasted into the wall in 1:52.89 this morning, blowing both his previous lifetime best and the previous Polish record out of the water. Prior to his swim, the record stood at 1:53.23, set back in 2009 by Pawel Korzeniowski.

Chmielewski’s performance shaved .34 off of the record, lowering the standard below the 1:53 barrier for the first time, and  marked a new personal best time by .73.

This morning’s race saw Chmielewski take it out fast in 53.89, almost half a second faster than the opening 100 of Korzeniowski’s record-setting swim. He stayed well ahead of the Polish record pace for the first 150 meters, with his first three 50 splits all being faster than Korzeniowski’s.

Chmielewski will take on the 200 fly again in the semifinals tonight.
