South Korea’s Hyunju Jo Breaks 200 Free National Record in 1:58.10

2025 World Championships

In her first and only individual race of the 2025 World Championships, Hyunju Jo threw down a stunning performance in the women’s 200 free as she broke the South Korean national record in 1:58.10.

Jo shaved .31 off of the record, which was previously a 1:58.41 set back in 2019 by Kim Seo-yeong.

In addition to setting a new South Korean record, Jo’s performance knocked over a second off of her own previous lifetime best of 1:59.54 that she recently posted at the Korean Swimming Championships in March.

Jo was out in 28.15 this morning, following it up with splits of 30.08, 30.35 and 29.52; she finished 15th overall to qualify for the semifinals of the 200 free. She came into the meet seeded 30th in this event, with her performance marking a huge leap forwards for her.

Thanks to her record-setting performance, Jo will be back in action tonight for a shot at the final.
