Korenwinder’s 1:01100 Breast Highlights CIF Central Section D2 Finals

GIRL’S MEET:

On the women’s side, 3 different schools each picked up a relay win. Kingsburg High School won the 200 medley relay in 1:53.74, with a strong 25.05 anchor from Olivia Garabedian. Golden West High School posted a 1:43.87 in the 200 free relay to take the win, getting a 24.21 anchor from Mackenzie Garza. Tulare Western picked up the final relay win with a 3:43.99 in the 400 free relay, highlighted by Mallory Korenwinder‘s 50.51 anchor split.

In the middle distance events, Khloe McCarthy and Morgan Coddington finished 1st to bring home a gold in their respective races. McCarthy swam a 1:55.49 in the 200 free, and Coddington posted a 2:15.60 in the 200 IM. McCarthy went on to win the 500 as well, posting a 5:05.24.

Mackenzie Garza, who anchored her team’s winning relay later in the session, won the first sprint free race with a 24.95 in the 50 free. Garza picked up another win shortly after in the 100 free, clocking a 54.14 to take double individual titles.

Mallory Korenwinder also earned 2 individual victories. First, she dropped from her prelims time to win the 100 fly in 55.34. Her 2nd win came in the 100 breast, which was arguably the most impressive swim of the meet. Korenwinder swam a 1:01.14 to win the event by over 10 seconds.

Lauren Geiger was also an individual event winner, breaking 1:00 in the 100 back to take home gold with a time of 59.88.

BOY’S MEET:

El Diamente High School won the 200 medley relay (1:39.39) and 200 free relay (1:28.52). The team got sub-21 anchor splits from Chase Canteburry on both relays. Canteburry split a 20.79 on the medley and a 20.97 on the free relay. In the 400 free relay, Edison High School came away with the win in 3:19.31, highlighted by a 48.55 anchor split from Sam Crary.

Callen Bruening and Chase Canteburry were both double individual event winners on the men’s side. Bruening won the 200 IM in 1:56.81, and followed that up with a 51.60 to win the 100 back. Cateburry swept the sprint freestyles, clocking a 21.64 in the 50 and a 48.55 in the 100.

Other event winners included Carson Brett (1:45.58) in the 200 free, Satoshi Shinkawa (52.73) in the 100 fly, Wyatt Suburu (4:48.66) in the 500 free, and Owen Ansel (1:00.74) in the 100 breast.
