State records in relay events and climbing to the top of the podium for the first time made it a memorable day for the Kent Denver girls at the Colorado High School Activities Association 3A State Championships.
Kent Denver High School won its first- ever state title with relative ease, finishing 123 points ahead of runner-up St. Mary’s Academy.
Kent Denver did so thanks to its terrific relay teams, which set two state records.
In the 200 medley relay, the team of Reese Rosenberg (28.49), Elsa Anderson (29.10), Valerie Williams (25.59) and Hadley Carrington (23.81) won in a state-record time of 1:46.99, breaking the old record of 1:48.32 set in 2022 by Evergreen.
Later in the 400 free relay, the team of Camryn Williams (54.45), Carrington (52.60), V. Williams (53.18), and Anderson (52.06) won in a time of 3:32.19, shattering the old record of 3:34.04 set in 2024 by St. Mary’s Academy.
Kent Denver also won the 200 free relay in 1:40.95 behind the team of C. Williams (25.03), Rosenberg (25.71), Emily Lin (25.05) and Olivia Altman (25.16).
Individually, Carrington, C. Williams and Anderson led the way for Kent Denver.
Carrington won the 50 free in 24.21, C. Williams captured the 500 free in 5:08.76, improving on a 2nd-place finish from last year, while Anderson won the 100 breast in 1:04.07.
The multiple-event winners of the meet were Holy Family senior Lorelai Frauenfelder and Discovery Canyon sophomore Alaia Sloan.
A Wyoming commit,. Frauenfelder, won the 200 IM in 2:03.76, and then repeated as champion in the 100 free in a time of 52.34.
After finishing 2nd in the 100 fly last year, Sloan topped the field this year in the event with a time of 56.05. Sloan then later won the 100 back in 57.12.
Other individual winners were:
- Wellington senior Cody Monajjem, a Northern Arizona commit, won the 200 free in 1:53.04. She was the champion in the 100 back last year.
- St. Mary’s Academy senior Mia Williams won the diving event with 426.00 points.
