2016 U.S. WINTER JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS – EAST

Kate Douglass of Westchester and Destin Lasco of Pleasantville were the big name scratches on the first day of individual events at the Winter Jr Champs – East. Both swimmers took their names out of the 200 IM. Douglass was scheduled for the girls’ A final, while Lasco the boys’ B final.

Coincidentally, both youngsters are focusing solely on the 50 free individually tonight. Douglass, who recently took down Dara Torres’ 13-14 NAG record in the 50 free, is the top seed in the A final with a 22.43 from this morning, just off of her lifetime best. Lasco, meanwhile, swam a 20.79 this morning which just snuck him into the B final.

Also scratching the 200 IM were Marlins of Raleigh’s Grace Countie and South Eastern Virginia’s Colson Moore. Countie dropped out of the C final, while Moore taking himself out of the B final. Much like Douglass and Lasco, Countie and Moore will focus on the 50 free. Countie will race two lanes over from Douglass in the girls’ A final, while Moore will swim in the boys’ C final. Also scratching tonight was Aldan Johnston of Lakeside Swim Team, who dropped the boys’ 500 for the 200 IM.
