Josh Liendo Throws Down 43.87 100 Butterfly As Florida Sweeps Georgia

Florida v. Georgia

The Florida Gators swept SEC foe Georgia on Friday with the men earning the win 191-154 and the women 194-145. After posting a 18.68 50 free last night, Josh Liendo threw down a 43.87 100 butterfly this morning for the win.

Men’s Highlights

Liendo is coming off of a short course meters (SCM) World Record in the men’s 100 fly as he swam a 47.68 in his home country Canada last week. His time of a 43.87 sits at #1 in the NCAA this season, just ahead of Arizona State’s Ilya Kharun who swam a 43.91 against UNLV.

Liendo also posted a 19.42 50 butterfly split to help the Florida ‘A’ relay that also consisted of Jonny Marshall, Aleksas Savickas, and Alex Painter to a win in a 1:24.43. Liendo anchored Florida’s 200 free relay to a win in a 18.54, the fastest split of the field as Scotty Buff, Devin Dilger, and Painter swam to a 1:17.28. Painter split a 19.18 on the 3rd leg.

After winning the 1000 free last night, Florida freshman Ahmed Jaouadi earned the win in the 500 free posting a 4:15.82. He swam a 4:14.94 three weeks ago against Virginia.

The Georgia men were led by Elliot Woodburn as he swept the breaststroke events, posting a 52.08 in the 100 breast and a 1:56.35 in the 200 breast. It was a tight race as Florida freshman Jordan Willis was 2nd in a 1:56.43. Woodburn’s 100 breast marked a best time as his previous best was a 52.26 that he swam for 10th in prelims at the 2025 SEC Championships.

Also winning two individual events was Drew Hitchcock as the sophomore won the men’s 200 fly in a 1:43.00 and the 400 IM in a 3:45.73. His lifetime bests in the event are a 1:41.09 in the 200 fly and a 3:39.55 in the 400 IM.

Tomas Koski won the 200 free in a 1:32.92 for Georgia. Koski also was 2nd in the 500 free behind Florida’s Jaouadi in a 4:18.53. Koski teamed up with Tane Bidois, Ruard Van Renen, Woodburn for 2nd in the 200 free relay.

Ruard Van Renen earned his own win on the day as well, posting a 45.62 to win the 100 back by over half a second. His lifetime best in the event is a 43.85 that he swam for 3rd at the 2025 NCAA Championships. He also was 2nd in the 100 fly in a 45.56, the #3 time in Georgia program history.

Notably absent today for Georgia was Luca Urlando.

Women’s Highlights

The Florida women were led by Catie Choate who won two individual events and one relay in the morning. Choate won the 100 back in a 51.53, shaving 0.01 seconds off her lifetime best that she swam for 5th during prelims of the 2025 SEC Championships. She won the 200 back in a 1:53.67, about two seconds off her best 1:51.25 that she swam at the 2025 NCAA Championships.

Chaote teammate up alongside Anita Bottazzo, Beatriz Bezerra, and Addison Reese to win the 200 medley relay in a 1:37.09, touching two seconds ahead of Florida’s ‘B’ relay for a 1-2 finish.

Bottazzo also earned two wins, sweeping the breaststroke events with a 57.05 in the 100 breast and a 2:07.89 in the 200 breast. Bottazzo posted an NCAA leading 56.87 in the 100 breast against Virginia three weeks ago. She also anchored Florida’s winning 200 free relay that also consisted of Carly Meeting, Lainy Kruger, and Sylvia Statkevicius as they touched in a 1:30.17.

The Georiga women swept the butterfly events as Ieva Maluka earned the first win posting a 1:56.97 in the 200 fly. That was less than two seconds off her lifetime best 1:54.98 that she swam at the 2025 SEC Championships. Senior Olivia Dellatorre won the 100 fly for Georgia in a 54.52.

Georgia freshman Kennedi Dobson swam to a 4:33.61 in the dual meet tournament to lead the NCAA in the 500 freestyle. She won the event in a 4:38.28 today.

I watched the streaming of the meet and the stands looked empty! Maybe 25 fans for 100 swimmers! Sad
