Position Overview
Las Cruces Aquatic Team seeks an experienced and enthusiastic Head Coach for a full-time position in sunny Las Cruces, New Mexico. The team has approximately 100 year-round swimmers from developmental through elite. We are seeking a Head Coach to lead all aspects of our swimming program and grow our team while maintaining a positive, athlete-centered environment that fosters hard work, team unity, and a love of the sport.
The Head Coach is the primary leader of the LCAT competitive swim program and is responsible for directing all levels of swim programming; creating seasonal training plans; managing, training, and evaluating assistant coaches; providing clear and effective communication with swimmers and their families; and ensuring a positive, inclusive, and safe environment for swimmers of all ages and abilities. LCAT currently trains at two facilities, the New Mexico State University outdoor 50 meter x 25 yard pool, as well as an indoor 25 meter city pool.
Key Responsibilities
Coaching & Athlete Development
- Develop and oversee a comprehensive, long-term training program that incorporates age-appropriate progression in stroke technique, endurance, race strategy, and overall athlete development.
- Directly coach assigned training groups, including the Senior group, while providing mentorship, guidance, and oversight to assistant coaches across all program levels.
- Integrate holistic athlete development practices, including dryland training, injury prevention, nutrition awareness, and mental skills training, to support long-term performance and well-being.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Certifications & Memberships: Must be a USA Swimming Coach Member in good standing and maintain all required certifications, including but not limited to Safety Training for Swim Coaches, CPR/AED, and Athlete Protection Training (APT).

Supervise the day-to-day activities of staff and volunteers including teaching aquatic safety and certifications as needed. Oversees the organization, implementation, promotion and evaluation of the aquatics programs and facilities to include collegiate use, collegiate extra-curricular use, community use and pool programming. This position also coordinates and oversees the recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, certification and performance of employees working as lifeguards. This includes teaching lifeguarding, CPR, water safety and all other required certifications. Cover any lifeguard needs for scheduling conflicts. Assists in the maintenance of the pools, to include chemistry, climate control, cleanliness and related pool needs. Assist in maintenance and repair of aquatics facilities and equipment. Assists the Head Coach to organize/conduct practice sessions, recruiting student athletes, monitoring academic progress of student athletes through academic advising and referrals, and recommend athletes for awards. The Aquatic Director/ Assistant Swim Coach assumes responsibility for enforcing training rules and monitoring the conduct of student athletes when representing Western Colorado University both on and off campus. Job Summary: The Assistant Site Director supports the Site Director in growing the youth swim team, the youth lessons groups, and private lesson program. The Assistant Site Director will lead one or more swim team training groups and assist in the training and direction of all swim instructors and coaches to ensure a high rate of retention.

Our team trains in the Jean E. Brink Pool, a 10-lane, 25-yard short-course indoor aquatics facility located at Oceana High School in Pacifica, California. BASIC FUNCTIONS – HEAD COACH
