PHILADELPHIA – James Madison swimming & diving began the season with a pair of wins, taking down La Salle, 177-122, and Drexel, 179-120, on Saturday at La Salle’s Kirk Pool.

JMU came away with five individual wins, four from swimming and one from diving, and won a relay.

Quoting Head Coach Dane Pedersen:
“Obviously coming away with two wins is a great way to start the season, but the coaches are really excited about what we saw: energy, positivity, application of things we’re working on in practice and the team generally had fun together. It was an awesome day all around.”

Diving

  • The Dukes placed two on the 1-meter board, as Natalie Jones came in second with a score of 279.30 and was followed by Maddie O’Mera in third with a score of 276.45. Both scores were NCAA Zone qualifying scores.
  • Jones then added a win on the 3-meter board with a score of 266.65.

Individual Swimming

  • Madison Wimmer earned a second-place finish in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:32.38. She also came in second place in the 500 Free, swimming a time of 5:07.96.
  • Emma Durham won the 200 Free in her first collegiate individual event, swimming a time of 1:56.30. Riley Nugent followed her with a second-place finish behind a time of 1:56.34.
  • Emma Dougherty also won her first collegiate individual event, swimming a time of 1:04.33 in the 100 Breast. Riley Bridgman took second behind Dougherty with a time if 1:06.43.
  • The Dukes earned a third-place finish in the 200 Fly, as Maddy Coombs swam a time of 2:07.99. She later then finished second with a time of 58.38 in the 100 Fly.
  • For the third time in the tri-meet, the Dukes finished in the first two positions in an event to win the 50 Free. Jamie Cornwell swam a time 24.02 and Alex Volk swam a time of 24.06, beating the third-place finisher by .01 seconds.
  • Cornwell won her second individual event of the day, taking first place in the 100 Free (52.23). Volk finished third .08 seconds after Cornwell (52.31).
  • Nugent swam a time of 2:08.03 in the 200 Back to finish second.
  • In the 200 Breast, Dougherty finished in third place after swimming 2:26.97.
  • To close out the individual events, Bridgman earned a second-place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.71.

Relay Swimming

  • JMU took second and third in the first event of the day, as the team of Sarah Pauley, Bridgman, Ann Chappell Ellington and Cornwell had the second fastest time in the 200 Medley Relay (1:46.34).
  • The team of Durham, Dougherty, Volk and Emory Hill claimed third place in the 200 Medley Relay (1:46.36).
  • The Dukes won the 400 Free Relay, as the team of Wimmer, Maddie Lehman, Volk and Cornwell swam a time of 3:29.36, over four seconds faster than the second-place team.

Up Next
The Dukes are next in the pool for the first of two home dual meets this season, hosting Marshall on Saturday, Nov. 1 inside Savage Natatorium. The diving portion of the meet will begin at 10 a.m. with swimming to start afterwards at noon.

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men’s swimming and diving team opened the 2025–26 season with a dominant 209–89 win over La Salle on Saturday at Kirk Pool. The Dragons finished first in 13 events, including both relays, and swept multiple individual races.

Theo Andreopoulos paced Drexel with three first-place finishes, taking the 50 free, 200 back, and leading off the 400 free relay. Sebastian Smith added victories in the 100 free and 100 fly, while freshman Matas Cinga impressed in his debut with wins in the 200 and 500 free. Drexel also swept the top three spots in the 1000 free, led by junior Kaan Akdag.

Philadelphia, PA — The La Salle swimming and diving teams competed in a tri-meet against Drexel and JMU Saturday morning at Kirk Pool. Overall, the men lost to Drexel by a score of 209-89, while the women tied Drexel 149.5-149.5 and lost to JMU by a score of 177-122.

On the women’s side, senior Gabriela Herbreder continued her strong start to the year, claiming victories in both the 200-yd butterfly (2:04.43) and 200-yd breaststroke (2:04.43). She got her third individual win later on in the 200-yd IM with a time of 2:06.75. Senior Carlota Ungo was runner-up in the 200-yd breaststroke (2:25.30) and third in the 100-yd breast (1:06.53). Ungo, Herbreder,  senior Tori Fenn, and sophomore Camilla Frost worked together in the 200-yd medley relay to win the event with a time of 1:45.82.

The women’s diving team also impressed, led by junior Tiffany Brawn, who won the 1-meter event with a score of 284.2, and freshman Lily Chandler, who finished second on the 3-meter board (265.45).

For the men, junior Carter Perkins paced the Explorers with runner-up finishes in both the 100-yd (45.88) and 200-yd free (1:42.99). Senior Tarik Gusic and sophomore Oscar Kroos each claimed second-place finishes in the 200-yd breast (2:13.5) and 200-yd IM (1:57.23), respectively.

The men swept the diving events, with sophomore Calvin LeBlanc winning the 1-meter (335.85) and placing second on the 3-meter (331.85), while senior Carter Randall earned the 3-meter title with an impressive score of 360.55 and added a runner-up showing on the 1-meter (294.30).

La Salle will return to competition in two weeks when both teams travel to face Villanova on Saturday, November 1.
