Italy Smashes European Junior Record in Girl’s 4×200 Freestyle Relay

The Italian team of Lucrezia Domina, Bianca Nannucci, Chiara Sama, and Alessandro Mao swam 7:56.06 to demolish the European Junior Record set by Russia in 2017 by more than a second

The Italian girl’s 800 freestyle relay team touched first overall in 7:56.06, taking home the gold and breaking the eight-year-old European Junior Record of 7:57.33 by more than a second.

Lucrezia Domina led them off in 1:58.61, putting them in a comfortable lead by almost a second over Lithuania. Bianca Nannucci, the 200 freestyle champion, swam 2nd,and maintained their lead with her 1:59.65 split. Chiara Sama swam the 3rd leg in 1:59.19, extending the lead to two-and-a-half seconds. Alessandra Mao anchored the team in 1:57.53, splitting a very consistent 27.56/30.05/29.91/30.01.

The previous record belonged to Russia in 7:57.33, which they set at the World Junior Championships in 2017 en route to their silver medal finish.
