Indiana State Dominates Evansville & Southern Indiana In Tri-Meet

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Indiana State claimed nine of the 16 events at the Deaconess Aquatic Center on Saturday afternoon as the Sycamores topped both Evansville (200-99) and Southern Indiana (221-79) to claim the meet win.

The Sycamores were paced by Erin Cummins (200 & 500 Free) and Claire Parsons (1000 Free & 200 Back) both winning multiple swimming events, while Jecza Lopez (1M & 3M Diving) continued her dominance on the springboards winning both events. Haley Halsall (200 Fly) and Ali Pearson (100 Breast) also recorded individual wins, while Indiana State claimed the opening 200-yard Medley Relay title.

“We have a few real great spots today, including the first relay,” head coach Josh Christensen said. “We definitely have some places where we need to continue to improve. We’re looking forward to getting back to work and getting better from here.”

The second team of Sahara VisscherJenna Nave, Allie Barasch, and Kalli Agapios placed fourth in 1:47.44, while the final group of Anna AsplundKiarra ThomasSophia Diaz, and Ash Saple finished fifth in 1:51.43.

Claire Parsons took her second 1000-yard Freestyle win in as many meets as the junior pulled away from the field in 10:10.21 to claim the event title by 12 seconds over teammate Gemma Dilks (10:22.80). Grace Cummings was third overall in the field in 10:30.83.

Cummins recorded her first win of the event taking the 200-yard Freestyle title after touching the wall in 1:53.25 to top teammate Addison Johnson (1:55.56). Maria Saldana Riebeling was third in the field (1:55.6), while Peyton Heagy (1:55.85), Visscher, (1:59.13), and Rachel Stutz (1:59.48) helped the Sycamores claim the first six spots overall in the field.

Kate Reeves was first to the wall for Indiana State in the 100-yard Backstroke finishing in 59.15 to pace the Sycamores. Agapios finished fourth in 59.52, while Asplund (59.57), and Ella Moustgaard (59.66) also went sub-1 minute in the event.

Ali Pearson and Nave finished first and second respectively in the 100-yard Breaststroke event. Pearson went 1:04.22 to claim the title, while Nave touched the wall in 1:06.04. Keefe (1:09.50) and Thomas (1:11.06) finished sixth and eighth respectively.

Haley Halsall (2:05.78), Dias (2:09.56), Dilks (2:11.57), Elle Santucci (2:11.59), and Raz Harel (2:12.75) took the top five spots in the 200-yard Fly event to lead the Sycamores.

Barasch was the fastest Sycamore to the wall in the 50-yard Freestyle event after going out in 24.52 to place second in the field. Boles (24.66) and Parsons (24.87) finished fourth and fifth, while Saple rounded ou the group in sixth in 25.28.

Jecza Lopez took the individual title in the 3M Springboard diving event as the junior scored 275.90 over her six attempts. Brenna Woodruff scored 201.10 to place sixth, while Bree Cleary went 196.50 to finish seventh in the field.

Barasch paced the Sycamores again in the 100-yard Freestyle touching the wall second in the event in 53.57 to top Visscher (53.97), Pearson (54.35), and Stutz (54.66) as the Sycamores put four in the top five. Saple rounded out the group in eighth in 56.22.

Parsons continued to showcase her skillset in the pool as the junior claimed her second 200-yard Backstroke event win of the season after going in 2:07.02 to hold off Agapios (2:07.30) for the title. Keefe (2:07.71) and Moustgaard (2:07.89) rounded out the top four, while Reeves (2:11.36) placed seventh in the field.

Nave was the Sycamores’ top finisher in the 200-yard Breaststroke as the freshman finished in 2:25.62. Heagy was fifth in 2:32.11, while Santucci rounded out the group in 2:36.43 to place sixth.

Cummins led five Sycamores in the 500-yard Freestyle event as Indiana State put all five in the top five in the event field. Cummins finished in 5:06.55 to claim her second win of the day, while Saldana Riebeling was second in 5:10.59. Asplund (5:11.26), Halsall (5:13.99), and Cummings (5:19.89) wrapped up the group in the field.

Cummins nearly pulled off back-to-back wins as the junior finished second overall in the 100-yard Fly event after touching the wall in 57.40 to lead the Sycamores in the field. Johnson was third in 57.49 with Boles (57.83) and Barasch (58.80) rounding out the top five. Diaz (59.01) and Harel (59.72) finished sixth and eighth respectively.

Lopez continued her dominance on the springboards with the 1M win on Saturday afternoon after scoring a 277.95 over her attempts. Cleary was fifth with 2:13.15, while Woodruff finished seventh with 197.60.

Saldana Riebeling (2:10.80) and Pearson (2:11.42) finished third and fourth in the 200-yard IM field, while Dilks (2:12.80), Keefe (2:13.46), Moustgaard (2:13.77), and Santucci (2:14.24) all finished inside the top 10 for the Sycamores. Nave (2:14.34), Halsall (2:15.06), and Diaz (2:19.24) also competed for Indiana State in the event.

The Sycamore quartet of Visscher, Boles, Rachel Stutz, and Agapios placed second in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay to close out the final event of Saturday’s meet after touching the wall in 1:37.48. The second group of Addison JohnsonPeyton HeagyClaire Parsons, and Kiarra Thomas finished third in 1:39.15, while Kate Reeves, Asplund, Raz Harel, and Grace Cummings placed fifth in 1:43.57.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Saturday’s meet saw a pair of freshmen highlight the day for the University of Evansville swimming and diving teams. Grace Moody picked up two individual victories while Alex Willis added a win and runner-up effort was the Purple Aces took on USI and Indiana State.  The Sycamores only compete on the women’s side.


Results


Moody earned wins in the 50-free and 100-free races. She swam a 23.80 in the 50-free to win by 0.72. Jillian Giese was third with a 24.63. Moody’s tie was just 0.07 off the 10th-best time in program history. She followed that up with a victory in the 100-free with a time of 51.56. Her finish marked the #6 time in the UE record books. On top of her individual performances, Moody contributed to victories in the 200-medley relay and 200-free relay.

Willis took top honors in the 100-fly. His time of 50.97 bested the competition by 0.15. Brendan Ulewicz took third in the race with a finish of 52.82. In the 200-fly, Willis took second place with a 1:53.45. The time put him 10th in the Evansville all-time list. He was just over a second off the winning time.

Claire Mewbourne was victorious in the 200-breaststroke. She swam a 2:25.21 to win by 0.41. Giese took fourth in the race. Mewbourne picked up a 3rd-place finish in the 100-breaststroke. Her time of 1:06.44 was 0.40 behind second place. Evelyn Chin took top honors in the 100-fly. Her 56.25 was 1.15 in front of second place.

Ane Madina took a podium in the 100-back. Swimming a 59.50, she placed third just 0.51 off the top time. Jillian Giese earned her top finish of the day in the 200-IM. Completing the race in 2:10.66, she was just over two seconds off the top time.

Joseph Capo was victorious in the 200-free. He swam a 1:41.62 to win by well over a second. Tyler Jackson took fourth in the race (1:45.71) while Carter Bolling placed sixth (1:47.20). Capo added his second win of the day in the 500-free. Posting a time of 4:43.39, Capo won by close to six seconds. Wyatt Gallas was third while Tyler Jackson finished fourth.

Logan Tenison was victorious in the 100-backstroke. Recording a 50.69, Tenison won by just under a full second while setting the No. 10 time in program history. Boris Tavrovsky rounded out the top five in the event with a 55.03. Tenison added another win in the 200-backstroke registering a finish of 1:54.69 to win by close to two seconds. Tavrovsky placed third (2:03.22).

Sammy McCall and Michael Pruett helped UE take a 1-2 finish in the 100-free. McCall finished in 46.58 while Pruett was 0.14 behind.

Luke Cook earned a podium finish in the 1000-free. His 10:16.46 saw him finish just ahead of Bryce Ryan (10:16.53). Jesse Montano and Chris Rector took second and third in the 100-breaststroke race. Their times finished at 57.30 and 57.83, respectively.  Sammy McCall and Ulewicz matched the feat in the 50-free taking second and third. They finished in 21.16 and 21.68.

Later, Rector and Montano rounded out the podium in opposite order in the 200-breaststroke. Rector was runner-up with a 2:07.66 while Montano placed third (2:09.84). Rector completed his day with a second in the 200-IM swimming a 1:57.76.

The men fell to USI by a score of 172-126 while the ladies lost to the Screaming Eagles (161-134) and Sycamores (200-99).

EVANSVILLE, Ind.– University of Southern Indiana Women’s Swimming and Diving picked up its second victory over the University of Evansville, 161-134, but fell 221-79 to Indiana State University Saturday afternoon at the Deaconess Aquatic Center.

Freshman Hannah Pryor continued the excellent start to her collegiate career, notching a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke with an impressive 58.99 time. Sophomore Emma Gabhart nabbed the team’s other first-place performance with a 2:08.59 time in the 200 Individual Medley.

Adding to the team’s impressive outing, freshman Addie Holmes tallied three fifth-place finishes in the 100 backstroke (1:09.48), 200 backstroke (2:09.13), and the 200 Individual Medley (2:11.81).

On the board, junior Maranda Uttke amazed in the one-meter dive, earning a 225.40 score in a second-place finish. Sophomore Gabbie Meier impressed in both the one (213.20) and three-meter (229.85) dives, earning third in both. Sophomore Anna Bunnell was the team’s top finisher in the three-meter, scoring 245.30, finishing second overall.

Next weekend, the Eagles travel to Louisville, Kentucky, for a matchup against Bellarmine University and Butler University on November 1.
