Ilya Kharun broke his own US Open Record to win the men’s 50 butterfly on the final night of competition in Westmont, Illinois. Kharun touched in a 21.69 to sneak under his mark of a 21.86 that he swam to win the event last week in Carmel.

Kharun represents Canada at the international level and competes collegiately for Arizona State. He will have the chance to win the triple crown for a $10,000 bonus next week at the final stop in Toronto, Canada in the World Cup Series.

Kharun’s time tonight was the 11th fastest performance all-time. He has been as fast as a 21.67 as he swam that time for silver at last December’s 2024 SCM World Championships in Budapest. He won silver behind Noe Ponti of Switzerland, who he has notably beaten at the first two stops this fall of the World Cup Series as Ponti swam a 21.90 last week and a 21.80 today.
