Liliána Szilágyi, a butterflier from Kőbánya Swimming Club in Budapest who competed for Hungary at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, has announced she will join the University of Florida women’s swimming and diving team in January 2017. As such, she will join a recruiting class that also consists of Danielle Keymont, Emma Ball, Georgia Darwent, Isabella Garofalo, Kelly Fertel, Kelsey Dambacher, Laura Rodríguez Cao, Maddy Conway, Makayla Sargent, Niki Urquidi, Savanna Faulconer, Sherridon Dressel, and Tori Bindi.

Szilágyi had excellent swims in the heats of the women’s 100 and 200 meter butterflies in Rio. She qualified through to the semi-finals of the 100 fly with the ninth-fastest time, 57.70. In the 200 fly she qualified fourth with 2:06.99. In both events her semi-final time was slower and she did not advance to either final. She finished the 2016 season with Hungary’s top times in both distances (57.54 in the 100 from European Championships in May and 2:06.99 from Rio), and was ranked third in the 50m fly with 27.00.

Szilágyi won both the 100m and 200m butterfly events at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games, in Nanjing, China. In the latter event she crushed the field, winning by nearly 2 seconds. Her 2:06.59 ranked third in the world for swimmers of all ages in 2014.
