Futures Qualifier Laurel Wasiniak Commits to Hope College for Fall 2022

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Laurel Wasiniak from Northville, Michigan has announced her commitment to swim and study at Division III Hope College beginning for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Wasiniak swims for Club Wolverine out of Ann Arbor, Michigan. This past winter she earned lifetime bests at the Michigan High School Division I (big schools) State Championships. Those lifetime bests included a fourth-place finish with a time of 51.97 in the 100 freestyle (Futures cut) and a sixth-place finish with a time of 1:53.15 in the 200 freestyle.

This summer she competed at the Huntsville Futures Championships where she achieved long course best times in the 100 (58.94) and 200 (2:07.37) freestyles. Her 100 freestyle swim earned her a 31st place finish in finals.

Wasiniak begins her senior year this fall at Northville High School, a suburb of Detroit. She was a member of the 200 medley relay that earned 2021 NISCA All-American honors as they swam to a time of 1:45.64.

Her best short course times are:

  • 50 freestyle: 24.39
  • 100 freestyle: 51.97
  • 200 freestyle: 1:53.15
  • 100 butterfly: 59.40

Hope College is a private college located in Holland, Michigan. The school is a member of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA).

The Hope College women’s team won the 2021 MIAA Conference Championship; it was the school’s second title in three years. The school also is led by conference MVP Emma Schaefer

Based on her best times, Wasiniak has the potential to make an immediate impact for Hope at the conference level and in the school’s all-time top 10. At the 2021 MIAA Championships, she would have won both the 100 and 200 freestyles as well as finished sixth in the 50 freestyle and eighth in the 100 butterfly. Her best times place her sixth in the 100 and 200 freestyles in school history.

Wasiniak will arrive on campus next fall as a member of the class of 2026.
