Fox Agrees to Put-Pilot Sitcom About Synchronized Swimming

If you had synchronized swimming in the “which aquatic sport will get a network sitcom first” pool, then you just came up aces.

Fox has given a put-pilot commitment to a currently-untitled sitcom about synchronized swimming. A put-pilot is a commitment by a network to air a pilot or face substantial financial penalties.

The show will be written by Ian Brennan (Glee, Scream Queens) and Diablo Cody (Juno, Ricki and the Flash) and will feature a single-camera format. The story will be about Marion Lolo- who has 26 synchronized swimming medals, a restraining order against her, and no friends.

Aquatic athletes have played as roles in a few television shows in the United States, including Pretty Little Liars; and internationally has been a central influence, as in the Australian drama Barracuda. No scripted American show focusing on an aquatic sports has ever been given a spotlight spot in network prime-time that we’re aware of, however.

The show will be produced by Century Fox TV in conjunction with Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment.

The show will have a female lead – part of a new focus for Fox to build off the success of New Girlstarring Zooey Deschanel.

Not surprised about the no friends .Synchro girls are usually underwater but on land they are usually very good looking ( if not beautiful) , ultra slim , massive attention to detail & super flexible . Everything most young women are not . Plus their make up never runs & their hair never frizzes . Did I mention very nice teeth .

If you are not thus you won’t have any medals .

I remember years ago, a coach trying to teaching me sycho moves to hard since I don’t have that level of flexibility. In CIF finals in 1975 a sycho swimmer won the 50 yard freestyle in 24 seconds that is like doing a 22.5 currently.
