Distance Specialist Morgan Wimberly Commits to Tampa for 2022

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Morgan Wimberly announced her commitment in June to swim and study at Division II University of Tampa beginning in the 2022-2023 school year.

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Tampa! Thank you to Coach Mike for always pushing me to be the best I can be and to my family, friends and teammates for their endless support.  I can’t wait to see what the future holds! GO SPARTANS!”

Wimberly swims for Chattahoochee Gold Swim Club out of Woodstock, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta. Last March, she set best times in numerous events while at the Georgia Senior State Meet. Her best times included the 50 (26.06) and 500 (4:57.90) freestyles, 100 backstroke (59.84), and 400 IM (4:30.95).

Wimberly will begin her senior year this fall at Walton High School in Marietta, GA. During her last high school season, she finished 5th at the 7A (big schools) Georgia High School State Championships in the 500 freestyle.

Her best short course times are:

  • 500 freestyle: 4:57.90
  • 1000 freestyle: 10:17.66
  • 1650 freestyle: 17:27.81
  • 200 backstroke: 2:05.16
  • 400 IM: 4:30.95

The University of Tampa is a private university located in Tampa, Florida. The school is a member of the Sunshine State Conference.

Wimberly has the potential to make an immediate impact for Tampa at both the conference and national levels. Based on her best times, at the 2020 Sunshine State Conference Championships, she would have finished in the A final in the 500, 1000, and 1650 freestyles as well as the B final of the 400 IM and 200 backstroke.

At the national level, her best times are under the 2021-2022 NCAA Division II ‘B’ cuts in the 500 and 1000 freestyles as well as the 400 IM.

Wimberly will arrive on campus next fall as a member of the class of 2026 along with Ava Borowski.
