The 2021 Danish national champion in the 100 backstroke, Sofus Balladone has announced that he will be coming to the United States this fall to swim at Oakland University. Balladone is from Aarhus, Denmark.

Earlier this year, Balladone claimed the Danish National title in the 100 back when he stopped the clock at the Danish Championships in 57.14. At the same meet, he also picked up a silver medal in both the junior and senior categories for the 200 back when he finished in 2:04.67. That swim put him just .3 off of winning the title in that event as well.

Balladone will be joining an Oakland program that has been dominant in the Horizon League in recent history. At the 2021 Horizon League Championships, the Golden Grizzlies put three swimmers in the A-final of the 100 back and swept both backstroke events as Marko Khotynetskyi claimed a pair of gold medals. Khotynetskyi, who is only entering his junior year, has been dominant in the backstroke events during his career, with his 100 back ranking third in program history and 200 back ranking second. He is the fastest in both races for Oakland since 2009.
