Creighton Prep’s Sean Tate Commits to Duke Blue Devils

Sean Tate from Creighton Prep and Swim Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska has committed to the Duke Blue Devils. His best times:

  • 50y free 20.59
  • 50m free 23.88
  • 100y free 44.95
  • 100m free 52.48
  • 200y free 1:40.95
  • 200m free 1:55.76
  • 100y back 51.95
  • 100m back 59.70
  • 200y IM 1:54.49
  • 200m IM 2:11.60

Tate joins a Duke sprint group that struggled last season, but has the youth to move up in the long term. In the 200 and 400 free relays, which were each second-to-last among non-DQ’ed relays at last year’s ACC Championships, all eight legs were swum by freshmen.

In addition, James Peek was the third-fastest freshman in the conference last year in the 50 free. While Duke is improving, their fastest 200 free relay so far this year still ranks just 8th out of 9 teams in the conference, albeit early. Tate, however, is good enough to step into what will be a much-more-experienced relay as a freshman in the 2015-2016 season and have an immediate impact.
