Creighton Prep’s Ryan Tate to join Northwestern Wildcats next fall

Creighton Prep senior Ryan Tate is set to swim for the Northwestern Wildcats of the Big Ten next season.

Tate is a part of the big Creighton Prep and Swim Omaha group that has come of age the past couple of seasons. Tate’s former teammate Jacob Molacek just wrapped up his freshman year at Auburn, and Tate’s twin brother Sean is committed to Duke for next season.

Ryan Tate has listed Northwestern Swimming on his Twitter page, and looks like a great depth pickup for the Wildcats.

Tate’s Top Times

  • 50 free: 21.23
  • 100 free: 45.90
  • 200 free: 1:41.40
  • 100 fly: 49.07
  • 200 IM: 1:51.62

Most of those times would place Tate just outside the team’s top 5 from last season – his 100 fly and 100 free are probably his most impressive times, but based on need, he might prove most valuable to Northwestern in the 200 IM. Only two Wildcats were faster than Tate’s lifetime-best there last season, and one was outgoing senior Andrew Seitz.

Northwestern has a relatively small roster, and will likely look to Tate for contributions earlier rather than later. He should be a solid addition to the freestyle relays, with enough versatility to make him an excellent utility piece for a small-squad team like the Wildcats.
