Thursday Prelims Heat Sheets

Virginia’s Claire Curzan chose the 100 back over the 200 fly, one of four swimmers in the top 10 seeds who won’t race the latter event on Friday.

Curzan, who was way over-entered on the preliminary heat sheets, was the top seed in both races.

Curzan has been a bit all over the map with her championship event choices in her college career, though she has yet to swim the 200 fly at a conference or national championship meet. Her best time is still a 1:50.85 that she swam in March 2022 at a Sectionals meet before college.

Also dropping the 200 fly are Virginia’s Aimee Canny (#7 seed), NC State’s Leah Shackley (#8 seed), and Virginia’s Lana Pudar (#9 seed). Pudar is not on Virginia’s ACC Championship roster.

Shackley also chose the 100 back, where she is the #2 seed, while Canny is taking the session off after a breakthrough 3rd place performance in the 400 IM on Thursday evening. That means no 100 breaststroke for Canny either, where she was the #6 seed.

She will finish her individual swims with either the 100 free (#15 seed) or 200 breast (#3 seed) on Saturday. She finished 2nd in the 500 free on Wednesday.

Other Friday Prelims Top 10 Scratches

• Cal’s Teagan O’Dell, Virginia’s Sara Curtis, and Cal’s Mia West all dropped out of the 100 back prelims. They were the #4, #5, and #7 seeds, respectively.
