The Cincinnati Bearcats opened their 2025-26 campaign with a dominant home performance against Northern Kentucky, sweeping both the men’s and women’s meets at Keating Aquatic Center. The UC women won 166-71, while the men nabbed the win in a score of 159-88.
Women’s Recap
Cincinnati controlled the dual from start to finish, winning every event but one. The Bearcats were led by Michelle Morgan, Lindi Worrell, and Kate Mardis, who each captured multiple individual victories.
Morgan swept the 1000 freestyle (10:17.28, just off of her first meet from last season where she swam 10:14..08) and 200 IM (2:06.44), while Worrell claimed both the 200 free (1:51.51, faster than this time last year where she swam 1:53.12) and 500 free (5:06.03, just slower than her first 500 from last season of 5:02.39).
Mardis rounded out the Bearcats’ sprint dominance with wins in the 50 free (23.78) and 100 free (52.09). Cincinnati also took top times in both the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.
Despite the lopsided team score, Northern Kentucky’s women made program history, setting new school records in every event they competed in.
The Norse’s 200 medley relay of Ellana Brown, Kate Motl, Macy Ganshert, and Pepper Schultz clocked 1:50.93, while their 400 free relay posted a new mark of 3:42.18.
Ganshert(50 free, 25.55), Paulick (100 free, 54.89), Brown (100 back, 1:00.80), and Motl (200 breast, 2:33.41) each added individual program records across sprint and backstroke races, marking a strong opening statement for the second-year program from the Horizon League.
Men’s Recap
Cincinnati’s men mirrored the women’s success, claiming wins in nearly every event behind key multi-event performances.
Graduate student Benson Wong swept the breaststroke races with times of 55.71 in the 100 and 2:02.17 in the 200, while sophomore Conner Hogan dominated the sprints, winning the 50 free (20.57) and 100 free (45.74).
The Bearcats’ diving duo of Ramez Diaa and Noah Green went 1-2 on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards to round out the team’s scoring.
Northern Kentucky’s men showed promise with four program records in the season opener. AJ Gomez broke both the 100 (50.29) and 200 butterfly (1:53.38) marks while taking event wins, and teammates Isaac Barrow (52.17) and David Barnett (1:57.55) set new records in the 100 and 200 backstroke, respectively.
