On the 2nd day of the NCAP Invite, the senior girls put up times that rivaled those we’re seeing at the Speedo Winter Junior Championships in Greensboro, NC and Austin, TX.

One such event was the women’s 200 free, where the top 4 finishers would have won the event at the East Junior Champs meet, where these teams would have been competing. Nation’s Capital 17-year-old Camille Spink posted a massive new personal best of 1:44.29 to win the race, narrowly beating out Long Island Aquatic Club’s Cavan Gormsen (1:44.48), and TIDE’s Kayla Wilson (1:44.52).

Spink used her superior speed to establish an early lead, splitting 23.94 on the first 50, while Gormsen was 24.60, and Wilson was 24.26. Gormsen held her pace the best, splitting 26.83, 26.65, and 26.40 on the final 3 50s, but it would ultimately prove to be not quite enough for her to beat out Spink.

The swims were personal bests for all 3. Prior to Friday, Spink had a personal best of 1:46.12 from October 30th of this year, marking an improvement of 1.83 seconds. Gormsen’s previous best was 1:45.93 from March of this year, marking a drop of 1.45 seconds. Wilson dropped 0.38 seconds from her previous best of 1:44.90, which she swam last December.

Gormsen is now the #15 all-time performer in the 15-16 age group, while Spink is #34 and Wilson #45 for 17-18s. NCAP’s Erin Gemmell clcoked a 1:45.46 for 4th place, which is a personal best by half a second for the 16-year-old. It took a 1:45.87 to win the girls 200 free at the East site of the Winter Junior Championships.

LIAC 16-year-old Tess Howley went on to win the women’s 100 fly in 51.98, breaking 52 seconds for the first time in her career. As was the case in the 200 free, Howley’s time would have been highly competitive at Winter Juniors. Sandpipers of Nevada’s Bella Sims won the girls 100 fly at the West meet in 52.21, while Alex Shackell of Carmel Swim Club took the East meet in 51.21. Howley would have been 2nd at the East Champs, and 2nd overall when the two meets were combined.

At 51.98, Howley is now #13 all-time in the 15-16 girls age group. Her previous best of 52.06 had her ranked #15. Howley also competed in the 200 free, finishing 5th with a new personal best of 1:46.55.

After his huge performance in the men’s 1650 free on Thursday night, LIAC 14-year-old Sean Green swam a new personal best of 3:59.69 to win the boys 13-14 400 IM. Green put his distance freestyle skill to work, posting a 54.71 split the freestyle 100 of his race, which was 0.18 seconds faster than his fly split.
