Camden Regional Girls, Morse Boys Repeat At Maine Class B State Championships

There was no change atop the podium at the Maine Principal’s Association Class B Swimming and Diving Championships. Both the Camden Hills Regional girls and the Morse boys defended their titles from last year, with Camden Hills finishing comfortably ahead of runner-up Cape Elizabeth and Morse finishing 26 points better than runner-up Greely.

Girls’ Recap

Leading the way for Camden Hills was senior Rowan Stewart, who claimed two individual titles and was a part of two winning relay teams.

Stewart claimed the 200 free in a time of 1:57.81 and the 100 back in a time of 57.36.

In the 200 medley relay, she split 26.78 on back to help Camden Hills win in a time of 1:46.83. Other team members were Adella Brainerd on breast (29.94), Flynn Layton on fly (26.15) and Marguerite Worner on free (23.96).

Stewart later led off in 54.36 to help Camden Hills win the 400 free relay in a time of 3:42.15. Other team members were Havana Kriste (58.21), Brainerd (55.63) and Layton (53.95).

Lincoln Academy sophomore Charley Carleton was the other multi-event winner, capturing the sprint freestyles. She claimed the 50 free in 24.50 and the 100 free in 53.10.

Other event winners were:

  • Greely senior Jordan Young won the 200 IM in a personal best time of 2:16.22.
  • John Bapts Memorial senior Stephanie Gualtieri claimed the 1-meter diving event with 393.40 points.
  • Cape Elizabeth senior Audrey Alberts won the 100 fly in 59.62 after finishing 2nd last year.
  • Layton, a junior for Camden Hills, won the 500 free in a personal best time of 5:18.31.
  • The 200 free relay was won by Camden Hills in a time of 1:41.89, behind the team of Avery Weeks 26.49, Brainerd 25.19, Py Nakjaroen (26.10) and Worner (24.11).
  • Brainerd, a senior, won the 100 breast in a time of 1:07.85.

Boys’ Recap

The highlight for Morse came in the 200 free relay, where a meet record of 1:29.01 was set by the team of Cadem Wells (22.93), Brady Chubbuck (21.83), Cameron Grifee (22.33) and Mac Couture (21.92).

The other win for Morse came courtesy of junior Fletcher McDonough, who claimed the 1-meter diving title with 465.40 points.

The multi-event winners were Mt. Desert Island senior Patrick Saltysiak, Ellsworth senior Cavan Jester and Cape Elizabeth junior William Harmon.

Saltysiak won the 100 fly in 52.73, and then repeated as champion in the 100 back with a time of 52.74.

Jester, who has committed to Maine, won the 50 free in 22.02 and the 100 free in 47.66 after placing 2nd last year. Both were personal best times.

Harmon claimed the 200 free in a personal best 1:46.76 and the 500 free in 4:53.90. He was 2nd in both events last year.

Other event winners were:

  • Greely won the 200 medley relay in 1:36.48 behind the team of Octavio Parra-Franco (25.11), Isaac Barr (25.75), Alex Wall (23.76) and Reid Petrie (21.86).
  • Ellsworth junior Eden Klein won the 200 IM in 2:00.05.
  • Greely senior Ike Barr claimed the 100 breast in a time of 57.69.
  • The 400 free relay was claimed by Greely’s team of Julian Savadove (52.59), Wall (49.83), Parra-Franco (49.49) and Petrie (48.87) in a time of 3:20.78.
