Caeleb Dressel on Fastest 50 Free Since Paris: “Still trying to figure out how to swim freestyle”

2026 Pro Swim Series – Indianapolis

Video captured by Anya Pelshaw.

After swimming a 22.48 in prelims to find himself in a 3-way tie for 15th with Grant House and Maximus Williamson, Caeleb Dressel swam in a swim-off for a place in the B-final at the Pro Swim in Indianapolis. Dressel won the swim-off, cutting more than half a second off of his initial swim to touch at 21.84. This is the fastest time the Olympic champion has clocked in the event since the 2024 Paris Olympics. Dressel ended the day with a 21.85, winning the B-Final out of lane 1.

He looks good. I think the mental is on track. Seems to be a genuinely happy Caeleb Dressel in this snapshot. Hope he continues to get to where he would like to go. It’s good to see a fast Caeleb Dressel.

i humbly recommend not fully dropping shoulder at base of pull. keep both shoulders slightly shrugged throughout entire motion. helps with hydro planing, because the extra inch of reach you get backwards is more than canceled out by having to then raise shoulders again to reach forward. look at mcevoy, very stable at the front with shrugged but relaxed shoulders. the reason you want to hydro plane is because the less of your body that’s in the water, the less water you drag along with you as your swim creates a current.

it also allows for a higher rate when your stroke isn’t as big. not fully extending out the back helps with external rotation at recovery (better dynamics), but… Read more »

i respect that penguin, offering alternative ideas mainly for the 50. the fingers only typed that humble message because he said he’s looking to tinker and he’s a humble guy. we all know he has the physical gifts to rival mcevoy if he keeps up with the professor creatively. tho i have to admit that was a solid ‘bro’

I actually love this quote.

I think Keith Richards recently said that he is still figuring out the guitar.

It’s OVER if you think you have stopped learning.

You people often say this…. And you say it most often when us Aussies are literally asleep. So it’s someone else, not us.

My first thought after watching was, how can anyone not like him? He seems like such a good dude.

I’ll say it again:

SwimSwam is the absolute strangest place I’ve seen for such things. I even named myself in “honour” of it.

Every Aussie swimmer I know (lots) loves Caeleb. And the vast majority root for improved swimming performances all round, regardless of country. We especially love an underdog or a comeback story – that’s ingrained in our culture.

We love it when we win, but for instance the Lezak relay is still my favourite of all time.

Wonder if Caleb has taken a look at how Cam’s body positioning in the water has looked recently? Cam purposefully tries and ride as high in the water as possible and uses his quicker turnover to ensure he is lifting his upper body high and using his kick to more lift his legs to the top of the water rather than using it to simply propel forward. This gets his body position roughly to where guys with Bodysuits rode in the water. Then it’s all about his pull-up style stroke to muscle his body.

Pam’s 100 free record also shows a massively High body position because if you watch his massive kick, it’s more keeping his back half of his… Read more »

I think everyone wants to be that high in the water haha, but like with everything, getting there is ultimately a combination of technique which is in athletes’ control but also the right type of body which isn’t in an athlete’s control.

It’s possible that Caeleb can’t elevate his body position like Cam does, just like Cam can’t have the start Dressel has.

Idk

Caeleb after a 20 year long swimming career featuring world records and Olympic golds: “I’m still trying to build up the courage to go in the deep end”

Coleman started his journey in the water at age 1, and although he actually has no memory of that, something must have stuck. A Missouri native, he joined the Columbia Swim Club at age 9, where he is still remembered for his stylish dragon swim trunks. After giving up on …
