SCRANTON, PA – The Cabrini swim teams moved one step closer to repeating as Atlantic East Conference champions, after another impressive performance on the second day of the 2020 conference championship meet.

Through two days, the Cabrini men totaled 500 points, followed by Marynmount (344 points), Marywood (217) and Immaculata (194). The women doubled their day one lead and will enter the final day of competition with a 509-419 advantage over Marymount, with Marywood (401) and Immaculata (157) in third and fourth places.

Juniors Cameron Mousley and Kurt Schuehler highlighted the men’s individual performances tonight.

Mousley captured his second consecutive conference championship in the 200-yard freestyle, reaching the wall in 1:44.75, followed by sophomore Mac Granto and freshman Ryan Bosch in second and third.

Schuehler stepped to the top of the medal stand after his gold medal winning 100-yard backstroke performance. The junior’s time of 55.24 established a new Atlantic East Conference championship record, besting junior Luke McDevitt and freshman Jason Highet, who finished second and fourth respectively.

Junior Nick Conroy added a second place finish in the 400-yard individual medley, while freshman Andrew Hickey finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke.

On the women’s side, junior Tara McCloskey set new program records in a pair of events tonight. The junior finished second in the 400-yard individual medley, reaching the wall in 4:50.91, slicing nearly three seconds off her previous mark set earlier this season.

McCloskey also broke the 100-yard breaststroke mark twice today. The junior established a new record of 1:07.52 in this morning preliminary session. She cut nearly a second of that time during tonight’s finals, finishing second with a time of 1:06.65.

Sophomore Maddie Werndl added a second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, while senior Katherine Buckman and sophomore Marisa Linsky earned bronze medals in the 100-yard butterfly  and 100-yard backstroke, respectively.

Both the men’s and women’s teams closed the night’s festivities on a high note, sweeping the 800-yard freestyle relay events.

Werndl, Buckman, junior Tori DeLusant and sophomore Sarah Gudas teamed to capture the gold in 8:29.17. The men, then, matched the gold medal feat, as Mousley, Bosch, Schuehler and sophomore Mac Granto posted a winning time of 7:42.56.

The Blue and White will look to complete their championship mission on Sunday, as the league hosts the final day of the championship meet. The preliminaries will begin at 10am, with the finals slated for 4pm at Marywood University in Scranton, PA.
