GERMANTOWN, Md. – More records fell during the second day of the 2020 Landmark Swimming & Diving Championships, held at the Germantown Indoor Swim Center.

To start the night, the Drew men captured the 200-yard freestyle title with the team of Matheus Macena, Harrison Neal, Michael Ma, and Jack Mahoney. The foursome won with their time of 1:33.99. Marycate O’Sullivan, Danielle Pikulick, Lauren Byrne, and Amber Diehl helped the Scranton women’s team win the gold, touching the wall in 1:46.51.
Catholic’s Gregory McCarthy continued his success from Friday evening, winning the 400-yard individual medley (4:02.53), five seconds better than the second-place finisher. Drew freshman Katie Cashin made a statement in the women’s 400-yard IM, setting a new conference and championship meet record with her time of 4:32.30. The previous record was previously held by Susquehanna’s Kelsey Lessard (4:33.81) since 2016.
Elizabethtown sent their first gold medalist to the top of the podium as Casey Marshall earned top honors in the 100-yard butterfly. The senior swam a 50.38 to win his first gold medal of the weekend. On the women’s side, Drew sophomore Sydney Everhart touched the wall first to earn her way to first place. Everhart swam a championship time of 57.52.
In the 200-yard freestyle race, junior Matthew Mahon of Catholic earned another victory for the Cardinals with his winning time of 1:41.29, while Drew standout, senior Mal Vishwanath won the event for the second straight championship, touching the wall in 1:54.47.
In the men’s 100-yard breaststroke, Scranton’s junior Jack Donnelly earned a trip to the top of the podium. Donnelly clocked in at 56.13. The Royals also took the top two spots on the women’s side. Rookie Danielle Pikulik captured the gold in 1:05.26, edging teammate junior Audrey Campo, who touched the wall in second with a time of 1:05.50.
The 2019 Rookie of the Year Eric Towse of Susquehanna won the 100-yard backstroke with his time of 50.36. On the women’s side, Catholic’s Caroline Beal broke the women’s 100-yard backstroke record, which was held for 11 years by former Landmark member United States Merchant Marine Academy’s Tyler Wickesburg. The junior broke Wickesburg’s time of 57.91 by .33 seconds with her time of 57.58.
On the final night of diving, freshman Robert McHale claimed the gold with 433.10 total points on the 3-meter board. Scranton freshman Jeanna Gailius won the women’s 1-meter board with 350.20 total points.
In the final event of the night, it was Drew’s men’s 800-yard freestyle team that stood proudly at the atop the podium. The team of Harrison Neal, Jeffrey Crouse, Jack Mahoney, and Josh Roberts clocked in with the winning time of 6:58.01. The Rangers also took home the top prize in the women’s race. Katie Jefferson, Katie Cashin, Mackenzie Garcia Hynds, and Mal Vishwanath crushed their previous championship record, set during last year’s meet (7:51.74) with their winning time of 7:46.73 to close out the night.
The 2020 Landmark Swimming & Diving Championships conclude Sunday evening. Preliminary events start at 10:00 a.m., while finals begin at 5:00 p.m.
