Byrne, Kellerman Lead Bucknell To Sweep of Patriot League Rival Lehigh

LEWISBURG, Pa. –Kelly Byrne won three events as the Bison won 10 events on Senior Day in a 182-118 victory over Lehigh on Saturday afternoon at the Kinney Natatorium. Clara Renner and Sofia Burns both reeled in two wins as the three swimmers combined to win seven events for the Bison.

Bucknell moves to 7-2 overall and 6-2 against Patriot League foes in dual meets this season. Bucknell wrapped up its final dual meet of the season with the Patriot League Championships less than a month away.

Bucknell started the day off with a first and third-place finish in the 200 medley relay. Bucknell’s team of Natalia GajeckiHanna BingleySamantha Benzija and Sara Ketron won the event in 1:45.97 as the Bison took 13 points in the event.

Byrne’s first win of the day came in the 1,000 free in 10:39.27. Emma Briganti followed in second with a time of 10:50.50, and Keira Giles took fourth in 11:02.93.

Kyla Kelly and Virginia Hastings went 2-3 in the 200 free. Kelly swam a time of 1:54.34 and Hastings finished in 1:55.27. Jennifer Bolden took fifth in the event to give the Bison eight points in the event.

Sofia Burns and Gajecki took the top-two spots in the 100 back. Burns won the event in 57.04, finishing two-tenths of a second ahead of Gajecki (57.25). Wainwright took fourth (58.40) as the Bison collected 15 points.

Bingley won the 100 breast (1:05.54), followed by Sydney Jee in third (1:06.17) and Benzija in fifth (1:07.82). Renner followed up with a win in the 100 fly in 2:01.93. Sydney Dettmann took third (2:06.60) and Joslin Halsey took fourth (2:08.69) as the Bison earned 27 points from those two events.

Tori Castro (24.17), Ketron (24.45) and Hastings (24.46) went 2-3-4 in the 50 free. Lehigh then took the top-three spots in the 100 free to take 16 points back.

The Bison answered with wins in the next three event. Sofia Burns won the 200 back (2:04.60), Byrne won the 200 breast (2:20.67) and Renner won the 500 free (5:02.90). The Bison had three swimmers collect points in each of the three events. Alivia Wainwright took third in the 200 back (2:05.90), Jee (2:22.13) and Bingley (2:23.92) went 2-3 in the 200 breast, and Dettmann took third (5:07.54) in the 500 free.

Lehigh took the top two spots in the 100 fly, but Hastings (57.21), Castro (57.93) and Benzija (58.12) went 3-4-5 to get six points back for the Bison. Byrne’s final win of the day came in the 200 IM, where she swam a time of 2:07.90. Jee took second (2:09.59) in the event.

Natalie Penman had a great day on the boards with a win in the one-meter dive and a second-place finish in the three-meter dive. Penman scored a 232.43 in the one-meter, followed by Ruby Ollife in second (220.05) and Dea Mielenz in fourth (200.48). Penman then scored a 249.68 in the three-meter.

Bucknell is back in action on Saturday, January 31 for the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Md. Bucknell will then be back in Annapolis for the Patriot League Championships hosted by Navy from February 18-21.

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men’s swimming and diving team won 13 of 16 events on Senior Day as the Bison took down Lehigh 198-102 on Saturday in the Kinney Natatorium. Freshmen duo Jason Kellerman and Drew Davis combined for five wins as seven different Bison won individual events.

Freshman Jackson Hagler had a great day on the boards to help the Bison sweep both diving events. Hagler set top-10 scores in both the one-meter and three-meter dives.

Bucknell opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay to take 11 points. Davis, Matt RaudabaughFinn Russell and Colin Smith finished in 1:31.90, nearly three seconds ahead of Lehigh in second and third.

Lehigh took a 21-15 advantage after the 1,000 free with the top-two spots in the race. Alex Crossing took third in 9:49.25 and William Shoemaker took fifth in 9:59.39.

Bucknell then posted wins in the next four events. Kellerman won his first of three races in the 200 free, swimming a time of 1:40.67. Dante Buonadonna came in fourth in the event in 1:42.08 to help even the score 28-28.

Davis won the 100 back (50.38), followed by Caleb Hagadorn in third (51.55). James Lombardi won the 100 breast (57.41). Raudabaugh (57.46) finished six-hundredths of a second behind Lombardi and Evan Hepburn took fourth (58.45).

Riley Twiss and Shane Wynne went 1-2 in the 200 fly. Twiss swam a time of 1:52.48 and Wynne was close behind with a time of 1:52.59.

Smith (21.09) and Russell (21.24) went 2-3 in the 50 free, and Drew Greene took fifth (21.43). Smith then came back to win the 100 free in the next event in 46.29.

Kellerman’s second win of the day came in the 200 back (1:50.07). Davis took second (1:50.99) and Braden Beagle took third (1:52.23).

Lombardi (2:07.68) took second in the 200 breast, followed by Raudabaugh in fourth (2:09.23) and Hepburn in fifth (2:10.49). Crossing then won the 500 free in 4:38.57 and Twiss took third in 4:41.00.

Kellerman then posted a win in the 100 fly (49.96). Russell took third (51.34) and Wynne took fourth (51.38). Davis followed with a win in the 200 IM (1:52.02). Caleb Kubiak took third (1:55.25) and Buonadonna took fourth (1:56.99).

Bucknell swept both diving events. Jackson Vinarub won the one-meter dive with his score of 296.55. Hagler’s score of 282.38 was good for second place, and the score is the sixth-highest score in school history. Jack Krug took third in the event with a score of 280.73.

Krug won the three-meter dive with a score of 306.83. Vinarub took second with a score of 298.80 and Hagler’s score of 298.50 was good for third. Hagler’s 298.50 is also good for the seventh-highest score in school history for the three-meter.

Bucknell ended the day with a win in the 400 freestyle relay. Greene, Kellerman, Smith and Twiss won the event in 3:04.52.

Bucknell is back in action on Saturday, January 31 for the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Md. Bucknell will then be back in Annapolis for the Patriot League Championships hosted by Navy from February 18-21.

LEWISBURG, Pa.- The final dual meet of the season for Lehigh women’s swimming and diving on Saturday afternoon against Patriot League opponent Bucknell University. The Mountain Hawks fell to the Bison 182-118.

Lehigh took home six event wins against Bucknell. First-year Genevieve Cody led the Mountain Hawks with victories in both of her solo events. She first won the 50-yard freestyle. She touched at 23.66, half of a second before anyone else and just short of a personal best. She followed that up with a freestyle win over 100 yards just two events later. She led a trio of Mountain Hawks to a podium sweep. Cody’s 51.80-second race paced seniors Mairin Ludwig and Caitlin Deitch, who finished in 52.25 and 52.86, respectively. Ludwig won an event herself earlier in the meet, swimming 1:52.38 in the 200-yard freestyle. She also placed second in the 500-yard freestyle, swimming 5:04.88. Those three women joined forces with first-year Eliza Johnson to take home a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay, they swam 3:28.51.

The final swimming victory took place in the 100-yard butterfly, where sophomore Clara Moschella came out on top. She swam 56.71, taking the first of Lehigh’s top two spots in that event. Subsequently finishing was Deitch (57.05), her second runner-up finish of the meet. She also succeeded the winner in the 200-yard butterfly, where she touched at 2:04.06.

Lehigh’s remaining first place finish came on the diving board, where junior Kate Whitaker scored the highest at the three-meter height. Her score of 250.05 narrowly gave her first, winning by just 0.37 points. The Mountain Hawks also took third place, as first-year Jayden Yochai earned a personal high score of 238.30. Yochai took third at the one-meter height as well. She was Lehigh’s highest scoring diver with 205.50 points.

The Mountain Hawks had a couple more podium finishes across the remaining events. First-year Eliza Johnson earned two top-three finishes in the backstroke events. She first placed third over 100 yards, swimming 57.46, and then touched at 2:05.41 to place second in the 200-yard distance. Sophomore Zoe Davies finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:50.90. Lehigh also secured a top-two finish in the 200-yard medley relay, the team of Anushree GhateEmma GyorkosAnnie Gao, and Giselle Michaels swam 1:49.25. First-year Reagan Gilligan and junior Eliza Meth had Lehigh’s remaining two podium finishes, earning third in each of their events. Gilligan swam 10:56.90 in the 1000-yard freestyle, and Meth touched at 2:11.30 in the 200-yard individual medley.

The Mountain Hawks compete in their final regular season competition next Saturday at the Navy Invitational meet.

LEWISBURG, Pa.- Lehigh men’s swimming and diving traveled to Bucknell University for the final dual meet of the season. The Mountain Hawks fell to their Patriot League opponent 198-102.

The meet kicked off with a win for Lehigh in the longest event, the 1000-yard freestyle. First-year TJ Hayes took first with a time of 9:34.96. He was one of two Mountain Hawks to place in the event, as Will Pestrichelli placed second at 9:41.50. This was one of two runner-up finishes for the sophomore, as he also came second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:38.63). Lehigh also were victorious in the shortest event, the 50-yard freestyle. Sophomore Chase Bearley took the win, swimming 20.95. This was one of two freestyle podium finishes for Bearley, as he followed that race up two events later with a third place finish over 100 yards (46.81). He touched just behind teammate Davis Woerner, who came second (46.76).

The remaining Lehigh win at the meet was by first-year Andrew Takach. He swam the 200-yard backstroke, where he led the event at 2:05.42. Nat far behind him was his teammate Carson Morris, who swam 2:08.48 to bookend the podium in third. Lehigh also secured two podium finishes in the 200-yard freestyle. Sophomores Jack Deppe and Will Moon took second and third swimming 1:41.02 and 1:41.04, respectively. This was one of two second place finishes for Deppe, as he was the runner-up in the 200-yard individual medley (1:52.27).

Lehigh earned second place in two 100-yard distances. Senior Ben Kisker touched at 51.01 swimming backstroke, and sophomore Jared Rabadam finished in 51.10 swimming butterfly. The remaining individual podium features were a pair of third place finishes by first-years. Spencer Ridge swam 58.29 in the 100-yard breaststroke, and in the 200-meter butterfly Spencer Cambell finished at 1:55.80.

On the diving board, first-year Ben Elie was the fifth highest scorer at both heights. At one meter, Elie scored 199.80. He improved over three meters, scoring a personal best 232.80 points.

“Tough day,” Said Head Coach Rob Herb. “We didn’t go down lightly. A lot of really close races just went the other way today. We’ll get them next year.”

The Mountain Hawks compete in their final regular season competition next Saturday at the Navy Invitational meet.
