Buffalo Swimming and Diving Competes against Cornell

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo, The State University of New York men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams competed against Cornell at the Alumni Arena Natatorium. In the non-scoring meet Buffalo swam and dove strongly in their second weekend of the season. The Bulls swimming teams won 17 of 27 events overall.

In the one-meter dive the Bulls swept the top-four places with Derek Linebaugh finishing first with a score of 293.78.Kristian Santos (292.65), Dan Roche (281.78), and Troy Birdsall (268.43) finished in second, third, and fourth, respectively. The women’s team found similar success in the one-meter event. Mackenzie Moss finished first with a score of 232.68. Abbey Croce‘s score of 219.30 was good enough to finish second.

Moss and Linebaugh both finished first in the three-meter dive with a score of 263.10 and 322.13, respectively.

The Bulls’ strong performances carried over to the pool as well. In the first event of the day, Bufallo’s 200 yard medley relay team A finished first. Mallory Buha, Alexis Valedon, Jula Box, and Megan Burns swam the event in a time of 1:45.62 and almost two seconds faster than the second-place relay team from Cornell.

Charles Barry won three individual events with times of 4:01.87 in the 400 yard IM, 1:53.08 in the 200 yard butterfly, and 4:39.61 in the 500 yard freestyle. Burns finished first in the 200 yard freestyle (1:51.87) and second in the 100 yard butterfly (57.76) to complement her first place finishes in the 200 yard medley relay and 200 yard freestyle relay.

UB closed out their meet with thrilling, first-place fnishes in both the men’s and women’s two hundred yard freestyle relay with times of 1:23.29 and 1:34.66, respectively.

Overall, it was a good team effort and a building block in the right direction as the team continues to compete this season.

The Bulls look to build upon another great performance next weekend when they face McMaster and MAC foe Ball State in their final home meet of 2015. The meet is scheduled to begin at 12:00 pm on October 24th in the Alumni Arena Natatorium.
