Former Arizona-based coach Bruce Rock has been named to the USA Swimming list of Individuals Permanently Suspended or Ineligible as of Thursday, December 19th.

Rock was a former coach at Mountain View High School, and is the owner of the Pima Aquatic Club, a USA Swimming club whose status is now up in the air as USA Swimming rules don’t allowed banned individuals to own member clubs.

Rock was arrested in September of this year on five charges of ‘sexual exploitation of a minor’ after police found child pornography on his computer.

At the time of his arrest, Rock was charged under statue 13-3553, which reads:

A. A person commits sexual exploitation of a minor by knowingly:

1. Recording, filming, photographing, developing or duplicating any visual depiction in which a minor is engaged in exploitive exhibition or other sexual conduct.

2. Distributing, transporting, exhibiting, receiving, selling, purchasing, electronically transmitting, possessing or exchanging any visual depiction in which a minor is engaged in exploitive exhibition or other sexual conduct.

B. If any visual depiction of sexual exploitation of a minor is admitted into evidence, the court shall seal that evidence at the conclusion of any grand jury proceeding, hearing or trial.

C. Sexual exploitation of a minor is a class 2 felony and if the minor is under fifteen years of age it is punishable pursuant to section 13-705.

Over the weekend, we were unable to immediately get an update of Rock’s case, but will do our best to track down that information on Monday.

Rock was banned under USA Swimming Code of Conduct sections 304.3.6 and 304.3.18 from the most current code, which read:

304.3.6 Conviction of, imposition of a deferred sentence for, or any plea of guilty or no contest at any time, past or present, or the existence of any pending charges, for (i) any felony, (ii) any offense involving use, possession, distribution or intent to distribute illegal drugs or substances, (iii) any crime involving sexual misconduct, or (iv) any criminal offense against a minor.

304.3.18 Any other material and intentional act, conduct or omission not provided for above, which is detrimental to the image or reputation of USA Swimming, a LSC or the sport of swimming.
