Brazilian Joao Victor Caballero to Join Georgia Tech for 2021-2022 Season

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Joao Victor Caballero from Brazil has announced his commitment to swim and study at Georgia Tech beginning in the 2021-2022 academic year.

“I’m extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the Georgia Institute of Technology! A huge thank you to my family, coaches, and teammates for making this possible for me! Can’t wait to be part of this team! #GoJackets”

Caballero swims for Sport Club Corinthians Paulista out of Sao Paulo, Brazil. He most recently swam at the SCM Trofeu Jose Finkel (Brazilian Championships) meet in mid-August. There he swam the 50 (28.65), 100 (1:01.12), and 200 (2:11.55) breaststrokes as well as the 200 (2:02.36) and 400 (4:22.63) IMs. At the end of July, he swam long course best times in the 100 (1:03.10) and 200 (2:15.07) breaststrokes and 200 (2:05.57) and 400 (4:31.18) IMs at the Sport Club Corinthians Paulista vs. Minas Tenis Clube.

His best LCM and SCM times, with SCY conversions in (), are:

  • 100 breaststroke: 1:03.10 LCM (55.04), 1:01.12 SCM (55.06)
  • 200 breaststroke: 2:15.07 LCM (1:58.08), 2:11.55 SCM (1:58.51)
  • 200 IM: 2:05.57 LCM (1:50.24), 2:02.36 SCM (1:50.23)
  • 400 IM: 4:31.18 LCM (3:58.54), 4:22.63 SCM (3:56.60)

Georgia Tech is a public university located in Atlanta, Georgia. The school is a member of the ACC.

The Georgia Tech men finished eighth out of 12 teams at the 2021 ACC Men’s Championships. The team also sent four swimmers and one diver to the 2021 Men’s NCAA Championships and finished in 21st place scoring 40 points.

Based on his converted best times, Caballero has the potential to make an immediate impact for the Yellowjackets at the conference level. His converted best times would have earned him a ‘C’ final swim in the 200 breaststroke. He is just off making the ‘C’ final in the 100 breaststroke (54.20) and 400 IM (3:54.14).

Caballero also already has the potential to make an impact at the national level. The 2022 NCAA ‘B’ cut for the men’s 200 breaststroke is a 1:58.43. It took a 1:54.28 to be invited to NCAA’s last year.

Caballero has already arrived on campus this fall as a member of the class of 2025 along with Leandro Odorici, David Gapinski, Josh Hanks, Antonio Romero, Berke Saka, Matt Steele, Mert Kilavuz, Scott Haney, and Sean Simms

Amazing choice! Top 3 engineering school IMO. In addition, he will have the privilege to swim in the 96 Olympics pool!
