Arizona State Adds Bulgarian Freestyler Miroslav Terziev to 2027 Recruiting Class

Varna, Bulgaria, native Miroslav Terziev has announced his commitment to Arizona State University as a member of the Sun Devil men’s 2027 recruiting class.

He wrote the following about his commitment:

I’m beyond grateful to announce my commitment to Arizona State University. I want to thank my family and friends for always supporting me, my coach back in Bulgaria for believing in me and helping me get to where I am today, and Coach Herbie and Coach Jack for giving me this amazing opportunity. Terziev recently competed at the Bulgarian Open Team Championships (LCM); there, he clocked a pair of freestyle best times, including the 800 free in 8:14.19, which won him the event. He also notched a career best in the 400 free, touching in 3:54.07, which helped him finish 2nd. At that meet, Terziev also won the 100 free (51.37) and finished 2nd in the 200 free (1:51.36).

Both of Terziev’s best times in the long-course 100 and 200 freestyles came at the Multinations Junior Meet in March. His 100 free best came as the leadoff leg of the 400 free relay, surging to his first sub-51-second time in 50.87. His 200 free best came similarly, leading off the 800 free relay in 1:49.58.

Best Times Converted to SCY:

The Arizona State men brought home the 2026 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championship title this past season.

Based on Terziev’s converted times, we can predict that he would have placed 15th in the 200 free, 16th in the 500 free, and 23rd in the 100 free.

There is still well over a year until Terziev joins the Sun Devils’ program, but his conversions already suggest that he could help draw in some points as early as today.

His range of freestyle events makes him an even more intriguing recruit. With the way that ASU has developed freestylers as of late, i.e., Jonny Kulow, Tommy Palmer, and Patrick Sammon, among others, Terziev’s base speed coming in is an enticing sign going forward.

A big plus is that the best times in his best events have all come within the last two months, and with another 15 or no months until he joins the Tempe squad, those times could be significantly faster.

Terziev joins Porter Ellsworth, Landon Hall, Thor Johannessen, Aidan Collins, Ben Jaggers, Harrison Tater, and Gavin Halusic in Arizona State’s 2027 recruiting class.
