Breaststroker Angharad Evans swam a monster 2:19.70 in the women’s 200 breaststroke to shatter the British record time by more than a second.

Evans came into the meet with a lifetime best of 2:21.86 from last year’s British Swimming Championships. At that same meet, she broke the British 100 breaststroke record, swimming 1:05.37.
Today, Evans got out to an early lead over the field splitting 31.97 on her opening 50 to be the only swimmer under 32 seconds on the opening 50. She was 35.26/35.92/36.55 on the remaining three 50s to touch in 2:19.70.
Evans will move up to 9th fastest performer in history in the event and just the 11th person ever to break 2:20.
