Alexanne Lepage started off the final day of the 2026 U Sports Championships with a bang, notching a best time to dip under the Canadian Record in the 50 breast. She swam 29.91 to lead the field by 0.70 seconds, taking 0.05 seconds off the former mark of 29.96.
That record was held by Amanda Reason, who notched the time back in 2009. Lepage’s swim tonight shaved 0.09 seconds from her former best time of 30.00, and marks her first time under the 30 second barrier.
Her swim tonight also broke the U Sports Championship Record of 30.34, set by Shona Branton in 2024. Branton was 3rd in prelims this morning in 30.96.
Lepage has now won (at least) two events at this championship already, notching wins in the 100 breast and 400 IM. The 200 breast finals results appear to only contain the ‘C’ final, but Lepage led prelims in 2:26.91 and was 2:19.84 at the Toronto stop of the world cup in October.
Lepage also competed for Team Canada last summer at the Singapore World Championships last summer, placing 22nd in the 50 breast (30.98) and 25th in the 100 breast (1:07.35).
She now ranks 15th this season in the short course 50 breast.

Lepage has been on a tear at this meet, as this marks her second Canadian record of the week. She was 1:04.11 in the final of the 100 breast on Thursday to shave 0.11 seconds off Kelsey Wog‘s 2023 mark of 1:04.22, which shattered Lepage’s former best of 1:05.94 set only in October.
Lepage set her long course best times back in 2023 at the World Junior Championships, where she was a double gold medalist in the 100 breast and 200 breast. After setting her first senior Canadian records this week, she could have a big summer in store.
