Isabelle Stadden continued her impressive outing in Westmont on Day two, swimming to a new lifetime best in the prelims of the women’s 50 back, touching first in 27.42, marking her first timedrop in the event since the 2023 US National Championships where she finished 3rd in the prelims in 27.64.
This morning, Stadden topped a loaded event field, notably touching a tenth of a second faster than reigning 50 back world champion Katharine Berkoff (27.52) to earn the top seed for tonight final. This time also jumps her into the top 30 performers ever in the event, putting her at a tie for 27th with Finnish backstroker Mimosa Jallow‘s 27.42 from the 2018 European Championships in Glasgow.
Through a day and a half of action at this Pro Series stop in Westmont, Stadden has already clinched a lifetime best in both of her individual swims, having taken down her former 200 back best time from 2021 (2:07.28) last night in her runner-up finish in 2:05.91. These swims come as some of our first looks at Stadden since making the full-time training move to Charlottesville, Virginia to train with the pro group at the University of Virginia under Todd DeSorbo.
Since her 2023 50 back best at US Nationals, Stadden had only been under 28 three other times. this swim also moves her up to #3 in the world this season, just behind Wan Letian (27.42), and Berkoff (27.28).
