The 2026 MPSF Championships got underway in Pharr, Texas, Wednesday night, and the teams wasted no time in amping up the excitement in the pool.

Women’s Recap

Northern Colorado raced to victory in the 200 medley relay. Martina TrionfettiMaria ErokhinaEllyson Lombardi and Alexis Mishler combined for an overall time of 1:39.01, marking the only sub-1:40 performance of the night.

New Mexico State claimed the title in the women’s 800 free relay, breaking the pool record en route to bringing home the gold. The race saw Dijana MazumdarNaomi SleeNatalia Florian and Katie Rink join forces to post a time of 7:12.55, besting the previous pool record (7:13.38) set by Northern Arizona in 2024.

NAU shone on the diving boards, turning in a 1-2-3 finish in the women’s 1-meter diving event. Mackenna Stocker led the charger, claiming the championship title with a score of 297.20 points. She was followed by teammates Margaret Wesche (292.25) and Grace Wesche (283.65).

The NAU women also took 3rd in both relays, helping to boost the team’s score as they topped the overall rankings following day 1 of competition.

Men’s Recap

While Cal Baptist leads the team rankings after the first night of competition, it was UNLV who threw down a stunning performance in the men’s 200 medley relay to kick off the meet. The team of Wikus Potgieter (21.32), Ty Schneider (23.45), Emil Perez (20.79) and Bryson Huey (18.56) posted a time of 1:24.12 and broke the MPSF conference record in the event.

Their performance shaved .32 off of the previous record (1:24.44), which was set back in 2024 by Hawaii, and secured the Rebels the MPSF title in the event by nearly two full seconds, with CBU taking the runner-up spot in 1:26.11.

CBU went on to claim a gold medal of their own thanks to diver Mario Del Valle. Del Valle won the men’s 3-meter diving event with a score of 398.45. During prelims, he shattered the pool record in the event with a score of 424.70 points, besting teammate Gael Jiminez‘s former record of 404.35 points from 2024. Jiminez placed 3rd in finals last night with 374.00 points, close behind Air Force’s Lucas Gerten (380.40).

The men’s 800 free relay went to Wyoming; Alexander MetzlerSimon CaseyAdam Pannell and Caleb Ozenne took home the championship title in 6:21.31. The squad’s performance also took down the pool record in the event, which previously stood at 6:22.26 and was set by UNLV back in 2023.

Wyoming placed second in the 200 medley men’s relay. But was DQ’d with a -.02 reaction speed. After the pad showed a 1.79 backstroke reaction time. Interesting call.
