There’s usually no substitute for great seniors on any high school sports team, and that was certainly the case for Broomfield at the Colorado High School Activities Association 4A Girls Swimming and Diving Championships.

Featuring a roster with 17 seniors, Broomfield won its first- ever state championship title in swimming and diving, easily outdistancing runner-up Cheyenne Mountain by 103 points.

“We have so many,” Broomfield head coach Emily Austin said to the CHSAA website. “They’re not all here today, but they’re what did this. We knew it was always possible from Day 1 when they were freshmen, so it’s full circle. It’s beautiful.”

Broomfield won two of the three relays, starting in the 200 medley relay when the team of  Karlie Chandra (28.57), Kamryn Wimmer (31.06), Ridley Hagerman (26.00) and Avery Weining (24.65) won in a time of 1:50.28.

In the 400 free relay, the squad of Hagerman (52.44), Marbury Wherry (54.91), Ellie Foulke (54.01), and Myra Wherry (52.86) topped the field in a time of 3:33.92.

The 200 free relay was won by Lewis Palmer’s team of Bryn Baker (25.11), Abigail Wallace (25.54), Riley Vick (25.62) and Grace Perry (22.68) in 1:38.93.

Foulke and Hagerman also added individual victories.

A senior who has committed to Air Force, Foulke won the 200 IM in a personal best time of 2:04.99.

Hagerman, who has committed to Navy, won the 500 free in 4:53.03.

Perry, a sophomore for Lewis Palmer, was the only multi-event winner of the meet individually.

Perry first won the 200 free in 1:48.18, and then won the 100 fly in 53.89. Both times were personal bests.

Other individual winners were:

  • JK Mullen junior Natalie Bradac won the 50 free in a time of 23.88.
