There were a handful of top 10 scratches for the second day of swimming at the 2026 SEC Championship meet, though many were not a huge surprise.
Among the more interesting choices is Texas sophomore Kyle Peck opting for the 200 fly (#9 seed) over the 100 back (#10 seed). Peck came out of high school as one of the best 100 backstrokers in the class, and made progress in that event during his freshman season.
The first 200 fly of his college career last week at the Sterkel Classic, however, seemed to sway this choice. He punched a 1:41.73, dropping more than three seconds from the time he did at the 2023 NCSA Junior Nationals.
His remaining schedule for the meet would then be the 100 fly and 200 back, his only other pre-scratch entries.
His Texas teammate Berit Berglund also scratched out of the 100 back as the #4 seed. The two backstroke races were her only entries at the meet, so this implies that she won’t be competing this week for the Longhorns, though she did take up a spot on the published roster for the meet regardless.
Another Texas junior Angie Coe scratched out of the women’s 200 fly, where she was the #6 seed. This was one of three options for her “third event” alongside likely entries in the 200 breast (#2 seed) and 200 IM (#2 seed) later in the meet. She still has the choice of the 100 fly (#8 seed) and 400 IM (#9 seed). She swam the 400 IM last year at SECs, but didn’t score.
The other top 10 scratch was no grand surprise – Florida’s Josh Liendo will skip the 200 fly, where he was the #2 seed. His likely lineup is the 50 free, 100 free, and 100 fly, the latter two of which he’s the defending champion in, though he technically does also have the choice of the 200 free.
Swimming starts on Wednesday morning at 9:30 AM Eastern time.

I guess there’s no one else to swim the event. Branon clearly isn’t going to NCAAs with 1 event he can possibly score in.

Yes that was perhaps a little more interesting than Peck.
We’ll see what he goes Wednesday night. It seems it’ll be 2FL or 2IM for NCAAs, unless he decides he’s dying to swim the mile and finds a Last Chance meet (fat chance). I’ll bet he swims the 2FL. His placing at NCAAs would be similar between the two and Texas has 7 under the NCAA Invite time in 2IM.
