AKRON, Ohio – The Akron swimming and diving team concluded a two-day dual meet against the Ohio Bobcats with a 239-171 victory at Oliver J. Ocasek Natatorium Saturday.

The Zips honored its seven seniors prior to the meet.

Elizabeth Noble led the Zips in the 3m diving event with a second place finish and a score of 620.11.

Akron started the day with a pair of top-three finishes in the 200 MR before Elle Couture took the top time in the 1000 Free with a time of 9:59.46. The Zips would claim second and third in the 50 Free with Callie Parkes (22.59) and Ada Szwabinska (22.73) leading the way. The Blue and Gold claimed second, third and fourth in the 100 Breast, as Claire CoxEfthymia Mazaraki, and Madelyn Bosler added points to the Zips’ effort.

Felicia Klintemar took gold in the 100 Fly with a time of 52.37 while Helena Lalkovic posted a second-place finish in the 200 Free with a time of 1:49.32. Abbey Cronin took the top time in the 50 Back (25.10) while Mazaraki claimed bronze in the 400 IM (4:27.30). The Zips finished the day with a second-place finish in the 400 FR (3:23.0) to finish out Senior Day.

AKRON, Ohio – The Bobcats’ swimming and diving team (5-1) continued their meet in Akron, Ohio, on Saturday morning, against MAC foe Akron (4-1). On the final day of competition, the Bobcats would ultimately fall to the Zips 239-171.

Day two of competition started with the 200-yard medley relay, where the Bobcats relay of junior Melanie Schweikert (Maineville, Ohio), senior Casadie DiBetta (St. Clairsville, Ohio), junior Jordan Claypoole (Parkersburg, WV), and junior Zita Szoke (Serbia, Becej) finished in first place with a time of 1:38.19.

In the 1000-yard freestyle, junior Ashley Sallows (Delaware, Ohio) finished in second place with a time of 10:21.01. Freshman Katrina Kollin (Dublin, Ohio) finished in third place with a time of 10:23.48, and freshman Emma Schwertfeger (Fishers, Ind.) finished in fifth place with a time of 10:45.10.

Szoke claimed first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.51. Freshman Tori Wittenberg (Medford, N.J.) finished in fourth place with a time of 23.29.

In the 100-yard backstroke, freshman Lily Baumgartner (Ada, Ohio) finished in fourth place with a time of 54.26, and Schweikert finished in fifth place with a time of 54.30.

DiBetta took the top spot in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:01.06. Senior Emily Ellsworth (Westerville, Ohio) finished in fifth place with a time of 1:03.69.

Claypoole finished in third place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.55.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Szoke finished in first place with a time of 1:47.88. Senior Anna McGrath (Lewis Center, Ohio) finished in third place with a time of 1:51.06, and junior Katie Buroker (Zionsville, Ind.) finished in fifth place with a time of 1:53.22.

Baumgartner finished the 50-yard backstroke in second place, with a time of 25.45. Senior Allison Schrank (Blaine, Minn) finished in fourth place with a time of 25.74, and Schweikert finished in fifth place with a time of 25.81.

Ellsworth finished in first place in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:24.09, and Morgan Brown (Fort Wayne, Ind.) finished in second with a time of 4:24.52.

During the 3-meter diving portion of the meet, junior Astrid Pichardo (Guanajuato, Mexico) finished in first place with a score of 639.90. Freshman Bella Basford (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished in third place with a score of 546.83, senior Stephanie Balthaser (Delaware, Ohio) finished in fourth place with a score of 522.31, and freshman Alyssa Kiszczak (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) finished in fifth place with a score of 496.35.

In the final event of the meet, Szoke, Wittenberg, Juliette Daigneault (Scottsdale, Ariz), and Claypoole finished the 400-yard freestyle relay in second place with a time of 3:18.70.

The Bobcats diving team returns to the pool next weekend (Feb 6-7) at Miami (OH). Ohio’s swim and dive team will compete at the MAC Championships Feb. 25-28, hosted by Akron.
