Former North Carolina High School Swim Coach Indicted On Felony Child Abduction Charges

A former high school swim coach and elementary school teacher has been indicted on felony charges by a grand jury after being arrested in October.

Concord, N.C., native Camryn Mae Carte, 24, was indicted on November 10, 2025, on two counts of felony child abduction.

According to the indictment, jurors allege that Carte “unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously” abducted or induced a minor, identified as B.B., from a woman who had legal custody of the child, as reported by Queen City News.

The charges reportedly stem from an alleged incident dating back to November 2024.

Carte was initially arrested on October 23, 2025, and released the same day after posting a $50,000 bond.

In October, Cabarrus County Schools confirmed to Queen City News that Carte was an employee in October and had been suspended on August 26, the same day an incident report was filed, pending an investigation.

Carte worked as a teacher at Weddington Elementary School beginning in August 2024, and also served as the swim coach at Concord High School during the 2024-25 winter season.

The school district said it is cooperating with law enforcement.

According to an online profile, Carte attended East Carolina University from 2020 until 2024, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.

Prior to that, she was a swimmer at Lake Norman Charter School (Huntersville, N.C.), and most recently represented Enfinity Aquatic Club (Winston Salem, N.C.) in club swimming. She last competed in February 2018.
