The dual meet between Tennessee and Georgia has been moved up a day due to the weather forecast for Athens, Georgia. The meet was originally scheduled for Saturday, January 24th, and the meet will now take place Friday, January 23rd with a 1 pm EST start.
The meet is one of the top meets to follow over the weekend as the it is a top 10 showdown on the men’s side with Georgia sitting at #4 and Tennessee at #9. The women’s side is a top 15 showdown with #9 Tennessee and #14 Georgia.
Georgia posted the following message on Instagram:
This is at least the 3rd Division I swim meet to be effected by the weather for the upcoming weekend. Liberty was set to host Campbell in a two-day meet this weekend but has changed it to a one-day meet. NC State is hosting Virginia in an ACC showdown in what was planned as a two-day meet but now will only be a one-day meet as well.
As of Noon EST on Wednesday, January 21st, weather in Athens for Friday shows AM Showers with a high of 52 and low of 39 degrees. Saturday’s weather forecast predicts rain with a high of 43 and low of 27. Saturday night’s weather prediction displays “watching a potential winter storm.”
Athens, which is about an hour northeast of Atlanta, typically only sees about a day or two of snow each year. The storm that is expected this weekend is being described as “destructive.” Georgia Tech is currently scheduled to host South Carolina and Miami-FL on Saturday at 11 am but we will update if that changes.

So thankful the schools came to a wise decision to reschedule the meets. Hope the weather system dwindles sufficiently to allow the UT buses safe travel home after the competition.
In all seriousness – wishing for great competition between two amazing programs.
Praying for safe travel for athletes, officials, parents and spectators.
Also to all – Be careful if walking on snow or ice!
