Italy’s Best Breaststrokers Cerasuolo and Martinenghi Will Train in the United States

While a handful of their Italian elite teammates are abroad in Australia, swimming stars Nicolo Martinenghi and Simone Cerasuolo will train in Fort Lauderdale, Florida from January 17th until February 1st as they prepare for upcoming international competitions.

There, they will train with their usual coaches Matteo Giunta and Cesare Casella in a consolidated training group at the International Swimming Hall of Fame pool. The group will also bring a team doctor Tiziana Balducci and a physiotherapist Paola Moreschi.

Martinenghi, 26, and Cerasuolo, 22, are the leaders of the Italian men’s breaststroke group. Cerasuolo won the 50 meter breaststroke at the 2025 World Championships in Singapore, while Martinenghi is the defending Olympic gold medalist in the 100 meter breaststroke and the 2022 World Champion in the same.

Martinenghi finished 2nd in the 100 at the 2025 World Championships.

Other stars training abroad include Olympic medalists Simone Quadarella and Thomas Ceccon in Australia. While international training camps for Italians is not a new phenomenon, more international camps are expected to be announced in coming weeks.

That’s because their usual altitude camp in Livigno, Italy, is one of the venues for the Milano-Cortina Olympic Games, hosting snowboard and freestyle skiing events.

Lorenzo Zazzeri, for example, has hinted at a stint training in the United States as well early this year.

Is every swimmer getting a swimswam article where they go on a 2 week training camp with their regular coaches?

Sounds like a good plan. It’s fun to know who is trying it new things and what teams are open to visits from other teams. When I coached she group teams it was always great when a visiting swimmer would train with us over the Christmas break. Everyone enjoyed someone new to race, chat with, test themselves against.

10 years ago… we were begging for an article on swimming, any article, that applied to our community

today, we complain about too many articles.

I’d rather have too manya rticles to choose from than not enough

The question is, where are those two pocket thieves training? Can they go back overseas?

Yes I think they have made options very hard for themselves.

What’s your reasoning? Makes more sense for them to train at Breaststroke U.
